Quick question regarding "Genesis 8 UV Swap"

Hey guys,

I had a quick question regarding Genesis 8 UV Swap.

My main goal is to buy Skin Builder 8 and use it on my Genesis 8 Male figure. To do so, since Skin Builder 8 is for female figures only, I read that you need the Genesis 8 UV Swap addon to get around this female-exclusive limitation.

No problem there, but after reading the addon's description a few times, I still can't wrap my head around the expected workflow.

Question: All I want to know is, will I be able to preview everything I do within Skin Builder 8 in real time on my Genesis 8 Male figure?... Or am I going to have to preview my changes on a female figure, to only then apply the resulting UV map onto my Genesis 8 Male figure? This feels like a reasonable compromise, but also a way less desirable one.

Would it just be better to use a Genesis 8 Female figure and use Transgender Genesis 8 instead?

That is all. Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks!

The Genesis 8 UV Swap is instantaneous.  If you load up G8M and apply the UV Swap, the base male texture will then look wonky on the figure.  Apply a female texture and it will fit properly.  Anything you apply the the UV Swapped character will work the same as if it were applied to a female character.  Most effects will show up immediately, but there may be some sets where something doesn't show up unless you use the iRay preview window or until you render the scene - but again, that would be the case if applied to a regular G8F character as well.

I don't think you can use skin builder on a male. The script looks for a female when it starts up. If I were you, I would build the skin on a female who has masculine morphs dialed in to get an idea of how it would look. Then, when I had something I liked, I would apply the skin to a male figure. Then all your male clothing would fit properly and your male morphs would be easily available.

In the past, I didn't have the transgender morphs and just worked on a regular female before using the finished skin on a male. It wasn't that bad. I was mostly only concerned with skin tone and adding details like acne anyway.

I can't test this myself, but what if you changed the males Scene ID to female?

I just tried it and it does work, but only if you edit the text of the boxes (Node Name/Node Label) to obvious things on the Scene Identification switch, not just switch the Compatibility Base.

But there's a few minor issues.

    1) It also causes black seems to appear as the textures are obviously for the Female UV, but those can be ignored.

    2) The naughty bits get entirely ignored, even if you do the "full switch" to female scene identification trick on them. You can "use torso map UV" to copy the torso to the naughty bits with the identification switch, but thats about it. Eyelashes seem to work fine though without doing anything.

    3) You'd have to do the switch every time, and then switch back to use the UV switcher. So it would be more work.

Soo it's doable, but questionable if it's better than just using the female base.
