Installing Daz on D Drive

Im switching to a new computer and the new computer has:

a 200 gb ssd for drive c where windows installed

a 1 tb drive for data

I'd like to install Daz and all content on the D: where there's space

Daz seems determined to install on the C: drive. Daz Central doesn't seem to be the solution, but though closer with install manager, I'm still winding up with files on the c drive.

Someone out there has to have installed daz on a second drive. What's the best way to go about this?

Thanks,

I manually installed D/S itself to the C drive [less issues and wanted all the plugins* to work], and then "all" the content to the D drive. Then that filled up and I moved "all" the content to an external drive with several TB ;-)

    * some plugins load via installers which expect the program to be in a certain location.

I am sorry I don't have a solution to ofer. However, I would ike to try to keep this thread alive until some good advice comes along. Over the years with all the great new content and features that just keep coming for free with awesomeness, this does seem to be a little thhing that never really gets attention. We really need a greater portability of content solution. I just had a horrible system crash. Actual cpu damage, so I will be getting a new computer, and will be going through reinstalling everything again. It would be nice to be able to install it knowing it would be one of the last times I'd have to this.

I think of all the content I purchase in the store and the one thing I would much prefer to pay for would just be an add on that made Daz content portable. that would be great fro all the times a system crashes, or even just gets too old and needs replacing. However, it would also be nice for working with other programs and stuff. Sometimes I'd ;like to take Daz along with me in my portable studio when I am going to be on the road and using a laptop for a while.. etc. etc.

So, I would love to hear some great advice in hear to help with WSC's problem, but I would also be happy to pay a vendor who could come up with a plugin to make portability possible.

    Thanks,

    Mo

    One solution is to:

    • first install Install Manager
    • set the desired paths - you can decide individually for app, database and content
    • then download and install app and content

I left the app on C:\ because, like Catherine wrote, some developers are a bit amateurish and hard code paths to DS's default installation directory.

Thanks for the responses. Yes, I think I may just delete everything again and leave the ap on the c: drive and focus on al content on another drive. It's a 250g ssd so I think Windows and Daz (the program only) can coexist there....

Wait...so you're saying I could put everything in the My Daz Library (runtime, people, environments, etc, etc) on a different drive than the app itself?

Yes, It appears so! this is how I have it setup now, following a similar route as above. It seems to be running fine though opening previous files means doing one time searches for content that has moved from where it was when the file was originally created.

My only question is, does the Daz Connect Library need to be in a particular place and called out for Install Manager and Daz Central?

And thanks for the help. This helped immensly. All my content would have never fit on the main drive.

Any content directory, including that used by Connect, can be located anywhere (except protected locations like Program Files) and called anything as long as you tell DS where it is and don't move anything within the content directory.

I gotcha. Thanks. ButI don't see where the Daz Connect Library is called out in install manager

It isn't, since Connect is an alternative installation method (done through Daz Studio itself).

    Ahhh.... ok. Thanks.

  • I'm wondering if I move all of the data, and textures from my c drive to my d drive will the moved content still work?
