Studio 4.15 Crashes When Content is Loaded
Hi all. I recently bought a new laptop with 11th Gen Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1135G7 @ 2.40GHz 2.42 GHz, 8G RAM and an Intel Iris Xe GPU. Studio loads fine, but whenever I try to load any content, it crashes and gives a "not responding" message. I attached a copy of a clean log from my most recent attempt.to load an object (I can't remember if this was just a basic Genesis character or a scene, but it doesn't matter; the result is the same crash). I am not savvy enough to understand what is going on, so any help in deciphering the log would be great. It appears that the trouble arises from Iray renderinig - the most common error is usually something like "pluginsource\DzIrayRender\dzneuraymgr.cpp(359): Iray [ERROR] - IRAY:RENDER :: 1.1 IRAY rend error: NvAPI call NvAPI_Initialize returned an error". Thanks for any help!

I've been having issues related to NVIDIA as well, crashing while rendering. However, in this case, it appears you may not have any (or the latest) NVIDIA drivers installed on your system.
It's possible your laptop does not have an NVIDIA GPU, but maybe an Intel graphics chipset instead. If that's the case, iray rendering does not work with them. Iray is strictly an NVIDIA render engine. You may need to switch to 3Delight or a different render engine which can utilize CPU for rendering.
Under Render settings, go to Advanced and change the Engine from iray to something else.
Iray can run on AMD and Intel CPUs.Just not any GPU other than Nvidia.
It's slower than running on an Nvidia GPU, but I've done it for years.
I don't see anything that stands out in the log.
The only thing that comes to mind is maybe Windows Smart Screen or DEP(Data Execution Prevention) causing some problems.
EDIT:
8GB of ram isn't much to work with.
Open the task manager and monitor how much ram is used when you are trying to load content.
Windows maybe shutting down Studio because the system is running out of ram.
