Inconsistency in tutorial layout to actual layout...

Hello again,

So I've run into a speed-bump here, and it brings to light something that I think can needlessly create confusion, especially when trying to follow tutorials and learn the program..

So, I'm following the tutorial here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J3H8hKIs4IE&list=PLF26E7AB601772F0A - it's a tutorial from the official Daz Prod channel on YouTube.

He's going through a quick introductory tutorial of the program. I'm trying to follow along, but I'm finding an issue in doing so, as - even though I'm using the same layout as he is, I'm not seeing the content he's seeing, where he's seeing it.

In the video, he's seeing thumbnails of all his content, separated by category, on the left side, under the 'My Stuff' tab. It explains that 'My Stuff' is now 'Smart Content', which is correct.

On my screen, however, I have nothing over there - even though I seem to have all the same content he does. Difference is, for me, it's all contained via a menu/list driven setup docked on the right side of the interface under the "Content Library" tab.

Here's a pic of my interface:

Obviously, the setup in the video is not only much more visual and easier to see, it also would make following the tutorial a lot easier and more consistent.

So, what I'm curious about is why the difference in setup?

Thank you.

You have added Genesis to your scene from the Content Library. Now you must open the Scene Tab and be sure Genesis is selected. After Selecting (Clicking on and highlighting) Genesis in the Scene Tab, your content should show up in Smart Content Tab.

The video you are watching was uploaded well over three years ago, there are bound to be some changes.

If you want to post an image to the forum, please use the 'Browse' button just above the Preview Post/Submit Post buttons, and load the image from your computer, that way, everyone can see it.

True enough, but to be fair... I'm a new user, watching a video that's currently still on YT. If it's too outdated and/or no longer accurate, then it should be replaced with a more current version. Otherwise, it defeats the purpose of having it available. Whether a video is still relevant isn't really something I, as a new user, would have any way of knowing, and shouldn't have to concern myself with.

Aside from the content not showing up, my screen looks exactly like the one in the video. So, it would seem logical that the content pane should display it the same.

As for the screenshot... I hadn't even noticed the attachments bit. Thanks for pointing that out. I'll def. use it in the future.

    Thank ya.

Hmm... did as you instructed, and still no dice. Only thing showing up is a hair set I purchased.

I guess I could just use the tab on the right. But I'd rather use/learn it as the videos are instructing me to.

What are some examples of content you have installed that you expect to see in the Smart Content tab? For example, have you installed Genesis Starter Essentials? (I'm guessing yes, since you have Genesis in your scene). Knowing what you have installed will help diagnose what you should be able to see in Smart Content. Not all products have metadata, which is what enables content to show up in Smart Content. Genesis Starter Essentials has metadata, so that should show up in Smart Content.

Did you install your DAZ Studio 4.7 and all of your content with the DAZ Install Manager (DIM)?

    Hey there,

    Appreciate you helping me out.

Yep, I have the Genesis Starter Essentials installed... Here's a shot of my actual Installed list, just in case it's helpful...

Here's another suggestion you could try. Open the Content Library tab. Click on the little fly-out menu in the upper corner of the Content Library tab and select Content DB Maintenance. Check Re-Import Metadata.

Hmmm. That little check mark by Stalker Girl Hair means that it has metadata. Products with the check mark should appear in Smart Content, and that one does. Now we need to investigate why the various Starter Essentials don't have check marks. I'll see if mine do and report back.

I see that the top of your Install Manager window says "Account". Mine has my name there. Do you know why yours just says Account?

OK, on my system, Dagger Dreams DS has the metadata check mark in DIM. Yours does not. I wonder if this is a DIM bug. I recently noticed one new product that I installed (can't remember which one) that had metadata files but the check mark did not appear in DIM.

I also have the check mark on Genesis 2 Male Starter Essentials, but not on Genesis Starter Essentials or Genesis 2 Female Starter Essentials. Any yet I can examine the package files and see that metadata files are included in those packages.

Please open the runtime/support folder within your DAZ Studio library and see what files are in there. That is where the metadata files get installed.

Also, you do not need to install the PoserCF files unless you are also a Poser user. DAZ Studio does not need them.

    That did the trick!

You know, at one point, I was thinking "maybe there's a way I can refresh the data and have it populate...", but I couldn't find anything to do that. Naturally, I was looking in the wrong places :p

    So that was the ticket.

It is *so* much nicer being able to see the content there.

    Thank you so much!

I'm not sure why it says 'Account' there. It didn't occur to me that it should say anything else, so I never even really noticed. At the login, it has 'Account' and then my email address next to it. Maybe I'm using an updated version that just has that instead of the name? Not sure.
