can limbs of any character be deleted?

I'm doing an audience shot of a concert from the perspective POV of the singer on stage. Its only really needed in this shot for the audience members to be visible from the shoulders up approx with of course some height differences but generally nobody can see their lower body so with this in mind is there a way to delete or remove character limbs for this shot so to make the shot less less render taxed as it would be pointless to have the renders take longer to do just for a bunch of the peoples bodies and clothing on the bodies that won't be shown in the angle of the shot. I get you can make parts of them invisible but that still isn't as beneficial as removing them in this type of instance with a LOT of characters likely making the final renders a lot longer to do than needed.

So can it be done? say like an M4 character but with his legs and lower body deleted so he's mostly just a head and shoulders in the distance.Ty.

You can hide body parts from rendering by turning off the "eye" icon next to the bone in the Scene pane.

You can select polygons of any object with the Geometry Editor tool and delete them entirely.

If you hold ctrl whilst pressing the eye icon on the pelvis (for M4 you will need to do this on each thigh), this will hide all the lower body (ie limbs, toes etc) with one click.

ya i'm aware of the eye invisible icon but is there no way to actually remove them?

I don't know about removing them.

Makig them non visible with the eye should improve your render times a lot. But if there is too mucho to remove/hide, maybe you can try an Iray Section Plane.

Just in case you missed what barbult said, yes, you can actually remove them (or anything else) using the geometry editor. You can find it under "Tools"  and it's pretty easy to figure out how to use it once you've selected it. To chop off the lower body, for example, you could just use a marquee selection and tell it to delete anything within the box.

Also, you may want to explore the concept of using "billboards" in order to save on resources etc.

If you use the terms  "amputate"  and "mannequin"  you will see products that geograft severed limbs away.
