How to partially texture figure (like turning them to stone)?

Hi all,

I'm curious how I can texture part of of a figure with skin and part with stone (but not just by separate limbs). For example, a character sees Medusa and starts turning to stone, and I want to capture the transition midway. I've got the before and after working okay. Any ideas?

Thanks!

You could create a geoshell on your character, texture that with whatever shader you want, and either paint an opacity cutout map for the areas you want skin to show through, or use the geometry editor to remove polygons from the geoshell.  There's a product that appears to do this really well with several options for the way it transitions, and can even animate the transition I think, but I don't remember what it's called.  I think it might be by SickleYield.  I'll look for it for you.  Link: https://www.daz3d.com/sy-skin-transform-for-genesis-8

  • Or you could make two renders. One with the human skin and one with a stone shader. Don't move the camera!

In Photoshop or Gimp you can combine these renders as layers and remove what you want from that pic with the stone.

Here I did exact this: https://www.deviantart.com/enchanted-april/art/Don-t-touch-my-things-469532503

Something like this? It's a Carrara render. There's a shader option to use two shaders with a blender. The blender is a grey scale image file. White is one shader, black the other and grey a mixture. I don't use Studio, but there must be a way to do it there.
