Disabling CMS in 4.7

A lot of content doesn't show in smart content that used to in 4.6 (when smart content worked that is.) and also... how do I turn CMS off with 4.7 as if it isn't working i'd rather not bother. I didn't use it most of the time before anyway as half the time it didn't work and also I would with a lot of figure intensive scenes and CMS seems to slow it down a hell of a lot.

    CMS is used for other things apart from Smart Content.

    It is used for Products and Categories, the Search function in the Content Library pane, and even Autofit I believe.

    CMS is loaded automatically as a Process when you boot up, so you get stop if from loading by using MSConfig from the start menu. Are you sure that you are still using CMS? The new PostgreSQL db system doesn't use CMS as a loaded process, it loads it's own 'postgre.exe' in Processes (several versions of it in fact).

    okay, how can I disable the postgre thing? is that even possible. 4.7 really isn't running that well so far. feels like a step back. i can use maybe 2/3s of the number of figures I did before.

    having CMS off in 4.6 would have affected searching, if it worked... but I had no end of hassles with it I gave up and it improved performance of the rest of it. I just had to look for my assests the hard way. With 4.7... I'm regretting upgrading at the moment.

    Uninstall the CMS, problem solved

    If the Valentina CMS database was partially corrupt, then the info may not have transferred to PostgreSQL CMS. Re-importing metadata (assuming you had Exported User Data if you have any custom categories or tags) should restore everything.

    If you uninstall PostgreSQL CMS DS will revert to Valentina CMS.

    How is it called exactly, just CMS?

    Every time you install DS the old Valley of Death CMS is installed and since it doesn't ask permission it usually gets installed to one of the Program Files folders. I always uninstall this PITA version immediately. The new Post Apocalypse CMS is installed by DIM only and will be where you tell DIM to install programs to on the Applications tab in DIM's preferences settings.

    Simpler (warning Windows) procedure:

    1 - go the service manager and find Daz*** whatever it is;
    2 - stop it;
    3 - modify the startup mode to manual.

    This way you still have it (should you need it) but normally it is out of the way.

    Note that this is the old Valentina CMS, the PostgreSQL CMS only runs when DS or DIM (or the Carrara beta) is running.

    I think I understand. To upgrade to the improved PostgreSQL CMS, we need to install it, because even though it shipped with DS 4.7, it was not automatically installed.

    In my case, I can see the "DAZ Content Management" service running in Windows Services, so even though I'm running DS 4.7, that tells me I've still got ye old CMS.

    Is this correct? :)

    [EDIT: Actually "DAZ Content Management" is running as a service, nonstop, regardless of the fact that the DS 4.7 log tells me that I am using PostgreSQL CMS, and regardless of the fact that I quit the program (also DIM) and waited a moment to give the service time to halt itself before checking Windows Services (via Task Manager). This seems a bit odd. ]

    Installing PostgreSQL CMS does not uninstall Valentina CMS. If you don't use Carrara and the PostgreSQL CMS is working fine, you can uninstall Valentina CMS or set the service to not start automatically.

    I am a software developer and I have PostgreSQL already installed for my development. Can I somehow tell Studio to use my copy?

    I believe it already does -- PM Kendall Sears, I know he had PostgreSQL already installed.

    So if I....

    1. Start ValentinaDB
    2. Start my dear elephant (for non PGSQL users, PostgreSQL mascot is an elephant)
    3. Perform the conversion...

    ...I should get Studio required schema inside my PGSQL instance and Studio configured to look there?

    PM'ing me will get nowhere ATM, my PM folder is chronically full. :-( Sending me email will get you farther than using PM.

    I have PgSQL running on a centralized Linux server separate from where the DS's in my network are. The DAZ CMS looks for a port that is not standard for Postgres, so there are challenges if you are using PgSQL for other things that need the standard PgSQL setups. It can be done, but it is not (necessarily) trivial.

    In Studio preferences I see the port but no sign of the IP address (and, even worse no sign of a way to specify the wire protocol). Looking in the registry gave no hint of any CMS related configuration.

    Well, I will come back to this issue if it will be mandatory to have CMS active to create products to sell here, otherwise for me it is sufficient to know that there is nothing on my box waiting for the next hacker to establish a connection to and use as a backdoor to hack to death my main box.

    P.S.: All my servers (e.g. MySql and PostgreSQL) are sitting idle waiting to be started only when I develop (and then my internet connection is attached to another, non development machine).
    P.P.S.: all of this since I do not trust config files to really block any non 127.0.0.1 connections (better be paranoid and safe than trusting and dead).
