Parka for Eskimo Characters needed - will purchase

edited December 1969 in The Commons

I am making a series of Eskimo characters. I want to buy Parka type overcoats that will fit Genesis 2 Male and Female. I would consider buying other Eskimo related gear, including sleds, igloos etc.

If you have AutoFit and can use clothing for Michael 4, you can get parkas for free:

That's not a parka. These are parkas:

The closest thing I've been able to find is the following. It's no longer available in the store, but I think they were a collaboration between MAB and the3dwizard. You may want to contact them to see if they are still available somehow.

I would kill (figuratively, of course.....or not) for a modern parka that could open and close, and with a hood that could be worn up or down. Instead we have an endless progression of skin-tight bodysuits. Oh well...

There USED to be I think just what you were looking for but they weren't for Genesis. I think it was M4, V4 and children. I can almost see the promo image in my head. It was a snow scene with the family in Eskimo type parkas and even, I think, a dog sled.

However, I just spent the last hour manually scanning chronologically through the DAZ catalog from oldest to the point where Genesis items started appearing and I didn't see the product. Sorry. They were if I recall, very nice outfits because I had them in my wishlist for years but never did get them.

Oops, somebody beat me to it. The "Champions" set above is what I was referring to. And it was older that I thought, M3/V3 generation!

Actually with retexturing and an opacity map to shorten, D winter would look quite parka like

No, I can show you plenty of Fur lined overcoats for various female characters. Every one of them as overtly sexy as the bodysuits.

http://www.daz3d.com/dewinter the De winter dress, the center panel could be retextured as laced front and as I said shortened, need to think outside of the box

Yup. And I own quite a few of those. Totally impractical if you want to do a real scene with real people in real winter conditions.

How come it's trivial to find this kind of outfit in the Second Life marketplace, but never, ever in Poserland? It know sex sells, but come on people!

Cool! I hadn't noticed that scene before. Could I ask where you got the snowmobile from?

I'm a poser user so this may require some modification for DS.

Take the jacket I used in the picture above (V4H) and apply a flat gray texture to the displacement channel and fine tune with the displacement value. This will cause the jacket to balloon out

I made it, and the curved wood sled in the pictures too. Just didn't think there's much demand for the props so I didn't release them.

Yup! Soooo tired of seeing the store full of a rehash of garments that look like they came from Victoria's Secret or Neiman Markus stores. A parka is not high fashion, it's functional gear!

That "Champions" gear above was almost perfect. But it was relatively expensive at the time and I never had a real need for it so I now regret not getting it just because it would have rounded out my closet. I wish it were available for M4 or even Genesis but I could even dust off M3 for a scene if necessary.

Fashion is sooo overrated. If it were up to me we'd all still be wearing stone knives and bearskins as we tried to build mnemonic memory circuits.

Yeah. I have a feeling you'd probably sell a half dozen. I'm pretty sure you'd have one sale from me though. Anyways, I'm currently looking at a cartoon snowmobile at Turbosquid that I'm thinking may not look too bad with the right texture. Of course, I'd have to do my own textures, it isn't rigged, etc.etc.

Here in Canada, we call those "hooded parkas" as opposed to "parkas" which I pointed you at.

Lesson for the day, for both of us: define one's terms!

    how about this
    http://www.daz3d.com/autumn-rain-for-genesis-2-female-s
    with a re texture
I think if you look at geometry alone you will find many suitable outfits
and there is LAMH to add fur

I've been digging in my old files since I first saw this post.......a full Inuit set of clothing was one of earliest attempts, had sealskin textures, and (really bad) fur :) footed leggings, short sealskin pants and kamiks (boots)....alas I am unable to find the files........might have to fire up my old old computer to find it and I'm sure it will need some work......but as soon as I'm done with my first pair of 3d shoes I'll have another look around......here's an image I did with the set.....it was for Genesis. My rendering skills aren't great but should give you an idea of what it looks like.

Hey FB I wouldn't mind re-visiting the Inuit theme, I'm sure I could do a much better job on the clothing items now.....might you be interested in a collaboration using those awesome props you made?

Maybe you could think about remaking it if you don't find the old files...?

I tried to make it as authentic as I could, was hard to find images on Google for reference but this set is based on a museum display. I do hope I can find it.......IIRC that hood was really a challenge!

Where is the link to this jacket? This is exactly what I am looking for
