Saved Subsets Missing Files

I have moved everything over from my old MAC installation onto my new WIN10 machine.  I have over 100 custom characters that are all saved as Scene Subsets.  I noticed that when I try to load them into a scene I receive errors on lots of missing files.  Most of these so far are my custom textures.  All of these files are actually there in the relative path and folder they originally were and copied over correctly, but the drive letter and path is now different since it still references my old system.  Is there a simple way to fix this?  I have already re-imported Metadata, but that didn't solve it.

Thanks

"simple" is a relative term. One can rename a drive on W10 BUT it is very unwise to rename the C drive [for the obvious reasons, that's where apps are installed]

If the content is on an external drive then renaming the drive shouldn't be a problem.

So I have my DS app itself installed on the C drive.  Everything else installed on a second internal drive.  I do have a complete copy of my DAZ library on an external drive so I could try to rename that one. But once I re-save the subsets, if they load correctly, won't they still be tied to that drive?

If they load correctly, yes I would think that they'd still be tied to that drive.

The alternatives would be to change all the textures (plus whatever) so that the scene is again complete, and then "save as" scene subset to the desired location.

Or, if the scene subset is in English, use Notetab Light to find and replace all the calls for the old drive to the new drive. Some scenes are encrypted and those we cannot edit.

When I try to open the file in notepad or wordpad it's all in some crazy looking code.  It must be encrypted. So that won't work.

I guess the only option I have is to load up the external, rename it and then replace each texture I see being custom with the new corresponding one on the other drive and then once I re-save it should now open with the correct file paths.

    1. Have all the textures {etc} where you want them.

    2. Then yes load the scenes and replace all the missing files with those located in the desired location. "Save As" to resave the file to the desired location as well. A straight "save" would have it resaving the file wherever D/S found it. If that is the correct place then all is fine.

When replacing texture images I always keep an eye on where the image is located as per the Surface tab. Some actions have D/S placing and using textures it has placed in a temp folder. One does not want to be saving calls to any temp folders ;-)

    .............

    If doing the replacement route, if that external is the main backup collection [as opposed to the files you wanted to be working with], then you wouldn't have to rename it - although you would have to keep an eye on what it is called in case you ever load up 2 external drives because then you would have to. {I have this issue for 3D Coat}

When I moved 'My Library' from C: drive to F: drive, have to remember to point Daz to the new drive to look for scenes, figures, or whatever I have saved off. Make sure your 'My Library' is correctly identified in DIM and in Preferences and that your files are there. You can manually move them to the new drive if needed. (Ignore me if this is not your issue.)

I've moved house several times recently and had a new main drive replaced a few weeks ago. I think it's important to have your extra drives named with the same drive letter as they were before, so I took a screen-shot of how they were named and labelled them as to what they contained. After I re-named the drive letters and added the libraries, DS had no problem with finding and loading the content. If drive letters change DS will be looking in the wrong place for stuff and you'll get broken links all over the place.

Ok so this might not be so bad afterall.  It looks like when I try to load up the subset, after the error DAZ prompts me to locate one of the files.  After I point it in the right direction it seems to find them all for that character in the respective path.  i double checked and the ones so far seem to load right and then once I save them back they load with no errors.  Yeah.  3 down.  98 to go.

They are not encrypted but are in a standard zip compression format.  They can either be decompressed with a zip utility or from within Studio.  If the error for the missing files is showing the full path including drive letter the textures where not in a known Studio library and therefore the reference to them is absolute not relative.

    GZ rather than zip.
