How to modify/change object without moving/rotating/scaling?

So I'd like to create an object in Blender, lets say a ring.

I want to change the object's look or create totally different obj file from it.

Is it possible to swap only geometry data and keep positioning of the prop?

Here's what i want to do as an example:

- Select a ring prop I've purchased and apply it on Genesis 8.1 Female

- Completely change its properties, but keeping almost same scale and hole design.

- Replace it with the ring prop I've purchased with the one I designed on exact same location on Genesis 8.1 Female.

I'm kind of familiar with ZBrush too but comfortable in Blender.

Thanks in advance ^^

Well, yeah. If you don't move it it stays where it is.

Obviously that's not the case as I have to export and import them OBJ. That'll import it on world origin.

It depends on what you mean by "completely change its properties". If you don't change the number or order of vertices, you could update the base geometry of the prop in DS.

I mean it by replacing them with another ring. But keeping transform, parented object, rotation, object location data.

Importing an OBJ file will keep the offset from world origin.

I don't know if there's some option you need to tick, but for my setup it's default behavior.

Export the item zeroed, replace it in situ, import that. If it is meant to be parented then use Edit>Copy>Copy selected Node(s) on the original item, parent the nes item, and paste to it to get any needed offsets.

I regularly ex- and import OBJ. Never happens to me.

Interesting. Thank you guys for your awesome replies tho!

So where you guys select to edit your content? If that's blender 2.9 like me, what is your export settings?
