Daz 47 Categories and DIM issue

3dOutlaw3dOutlaw Posts: 2,471

So I upgraded to Studio 4.7, and it seems to be working fine. Then I noticed my categories were not showing up.

I checked for the Daz Service running and it was not. I started it, then restarted Studio, and they were there. Then I tried to add something and they disappeared...i.e. the service had stopped.

Looking in the forums, there is supposedly a new Postgresql option, without a service :)

Problem is I dont know if I installed that, cause I don't use the DIM cause it shows every item I have ever purchased as not being installed, and it causes me more confusion than help.

I did run a script I found saying convert from Valentina to Postrgesql, but it fails out.

So a couple of questions:

1 - In the DIM, is there a way to check a bunch of items and say, "These are installed, don't show them please"
2 - How do I know if the Postgresql stuff is installed?
3 - If not, how do I get it?
4 - If so, how do I know its running?

If you have PostgreSQL installed, running DAZ Studio will load several versions of 'postgre.exe' in the Task Manager under Processes, it does not use CMS.

You can install PostgreSQL via DIM, and then run the conversion program which will convert the Valentina/CMS db to PostgreSQL (also in DIM)

In DIM, you can Hide selected files in the 'Ready to Install' tab, so that they wont show again, but DIM has no idea if they are installed or not unless DIM installed them. Select the items that you don't want to see, right click and select Hide Package(s) . All Selected.

You would be much better to use DIM to install your content anyway, it doesn't take long, you get the latest version, PLUS you get reminders when products are updated for any reason.

Thanks, how do I find or get the PostgreSQL in DIM? All I can find are products (content)...?

I will try the Hide thing, thanks for that! I want to use the DIM, but since everything was there, I found it more cluttered than useful.

PostgreSQL should be in DIM. It sounds as if it may be installed but your Valentina database wasn't converted or failed to convert. You can check to see if PostgreSQL is there by looking at Task Manager when DS is running, it should appear (multiple items) in the processes tab or by going to Edit>Preferences and seeing if you have a CMS Settings tab on the right (if you sdo you have PostgreSQL running).

I have moved my OS to a SSD and replaced almost all my hardware. I was running Daz Studio 4.6 and I installed Daz Studio 4.7. I exported my user data. I am placing my content in a different folder than it was in before. Unfortunately, I cannot find my categories. The content manager is installed and running, but I do not have a postgre showing up in my background processes. ContentManagementServer.exe is running in the background. I know the content library panel has several seperator bars that can be clicked on, but none reveal categories, though there is one for the folders I have. Any ideas on what I need to do?

    Thanks,
    Steven

Do you mean Content Library has "DAZ Studio Formats" and "Poser Formats", but not Categories or Products? If you click the options menu (rectangle with horizontal lines in the upper corner), is the "Start CMS" option selectable or grayed out?

Yes, I mean content library has "DAZ studio formats" and "Poser Formats" but not categories. When I go to the options menu, "start CMS" and "Stop CMS" are both greyed out.

    Thanks,
    Steven

If you go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File and work your way up from the bottom, does it say:
    "Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL",
    "Connected to CMS: 4.8", or
    "Unable to connect to CMS"?

Your comment about the greyed out "Start CMS" thing pointed me in the right direction and told me enough to do some google searches that yielded some useful results. I found and installed PostgreSQL and I now have categories. Apparently, in order to get my categories from my old installation (from the files from a export user data command on the old installation) I need "PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion". However, I'm not having too great of luck finding it. I have done a few searches, no luck so far. Do you know how I can get that?

BTW, it says "Connected to CMS: PostgreSQL 9.3.4, compiled by Visual C++ build 1600, 64-bit"

    Edit:
I think I'm working from some old/incomplete tutorials. I managed to get the "PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion" installed, or at least the DIM says it installed. However, the tutorial says I'm supposed to run that and it doesn't say how to find it. Also, I'm not really sure how this is going to work out since I've moved the content location.

When DIM "installs" the Conversion it's actually running it. That reads the data directly from the Valentina database (but even a partially-corrupt database can cause that to fail). Re-Import Metadata reads the files in the Support folder instead (including the Exported User Data) and works whether Valentina is working or not. Also, the files in the Support folder have only relative paths, so as long as the new content location is set in Content Directory Manager, Re-Import Metadata will find the new location.

I do see that tab CMS Settings in the preferences (Cluster Directory: None, Port: 1024)

There are no processes related to or called PostgreSQL. I could not find anything on my PC (using Everything search engine) with PostgreSQL in the name, and nothing in Programs and Feature in Windows.

When I run the script, which is under:
Daz Studio Formats->My Library->Scripts->Utilities --->>> Import Metadata from Valentina, I get "an error occurrec while reading the file, check the log..."

    Log says:
    Loading script: C:/Users/mjl/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/Scripts/Utilities/Import Metadata from Valentina.dsa
    WARNING: Script Error: Line 27
WARNING: TypeError: Result of expression 'sSuccessMessage' [undefined] is not an object.
    WARNING: Stack Trace:
    ()@:27
Error in script execution: C:/Users/[username]/Documents/DAZ 3D/Studio/My Library/Scripts/Utilities/Import Metadata from Valentina.dsa

...oh, and the Start/Stop CMS stuff is grayed out

By default the Cluster Directory would be C:/Users/YOU/AppData/Roaming/DAZ 3D/cms for Windows - if it's currently None it sounds as if set-up may not have completed properly.

So what would be the right steps...? Uninstall, re-install?

So I would like to use the DIM to re-install, but I cant seem to get DS4.7 to show, unless it is in something, or I am completely missing it (I did just get my first pair of reading glasses recently)

Can someone tell me how to queue it in the DIM?

OK, it must have been part of the starter essentials...cause I let the top bunch run in the DIM, and after download, when install started, the Daz Studio and PostgreSQL magically appeared and started to install. :) I'll update after its done if it all works.

    Update:

Well, it appears "hung" as it keeps cycyling through the list shown, and each one fails, then retries and fails and retires and fails, etc, etc, etc... I killed it restarted it, and installed each one, and got through it.

Seems to be all working now...

PostgreSQL does not play well with ZoneAlarm, this is a known issue (and has been for some time, apparently).
