Wanting to paint fingernails seperatly.

I would like to show one of my characters painting her fingernails.  WhatI would like to do is show the progression throughout the renders.  What I find challengng is tryingto figure out what fingernail on the texture map is what.  I tried figuring it out myself, but got these results.  Image 1 is when I painted what I thought were the index finger, but image 2 shows different.  Image 3 is when I tried to fix it, but I'm confussed as to what is going on here.  Anyone have any suggestions?

okay so this might help ,it will show which color goes to which finger ,either place it over your fingernail  texture in the surface tab, then in your paint program on a seperate layer do your polish ,I hope that makes sense ... oh and the reason your second try didn't work is you polished the hidden portion of the nail I'm not sure why the first try acted up though...

As Carrie said. Create an extra layer and just put different numbers or letters over each nail, then render it and you have a reference image of what goes where and what doesn't show etc. Then do the actual colours that you want.

Or, instead of numbers, you could mark them

Please don't post textures, unless theya re all your own work (which doesn't appear to eb the case here).

I'd rather use geometry editor to create separate surface for each fingernail then swap shaders on the nails. No texture tracking or editing needed, you could use any G8 nail material this way.

That would be an option too. You would get ease of use, but you'll be using more textures/VRAM.

I'm kind of sure there's a product that has nails being painted...

If you were working with G8 you could use this. https://www.daz3d.com/ab-single-nails-for-genesis-8-female

Those appear to be shape morphs, not textures.

@Boorsman feel free to down load the guide I made , @ps201 only problem with that is the letters or numbers don't show up legible until you render doing just the colors does show up in the view port clearly.
