Can you render from a different camera then viewed/selected or see headlamp without rendering it on?
Obviously when you render, you don't want the headlamp turned on, but in some scenes, without it it's too dark to view the scene. I tend to use a camera with the headlamp (and generally name it no render or something) and then duplicate it for render and turn it off. I do this because otherwise I forget to turn it on and off. Anyway, I've been making some huge renders, and I need to do an area/spot render of a tiny part (in this instance I need to rerender my models hands and feet because I forgot to add nail polish). So, the problem becomes, I can't see in the scene where the hands/feet are and am having to guess. I know in poser you used to be able to area render over pieces of the actual render, but I don't think you can do that in DS. I'm using area render to new window, because I need a certain dimension. Thoughts on how to do this easier?

Yes, turn off preview Lights (Window>Preview Lights if you don't have the tool bar button, default shortcut cmd/ctrl L) for a headlamp- like effect without having to have the headlamp on.
Thanks! I found it under Window, how do I add it to the toolbar? I'm not sure if I'm just missing it or it's not there.
Hit F3 to bring up the editor widget thingie. On the left side of the box scroll down to and expand window section. On the right side click on the toolbar tab, you can drag and drop it from the left to one of the tollbars on the right. Hit Apply and accept. If you still dont see it, go to activities tab on the right, expand, if you see one of them says off, rght click and enable toolbar. apply accept.
