Does anyone know if it's possible to hide the hairs strands (the ones that's called the ringlets I think?) that goes down to the shoulder on this hair?

Well just gave it a try. Actually a very nice hair with a lot of options, you can even turn it into something like this:

dare I ask how, I didn't know that was possible. I normally just toss a color preset on that style, then start fussing with the outfit.

Is that using shape/actor sliders, or opacity-masking strand sections as I had done with a different style?

Opacity masking yes. Looks like you already know how, but here's a screenshot in case there are others who don't. Just select the part you want to hide and set Opacity to 0.

Ah, OK. So nothing as advanced as masking strand sets. More like hiding the braids on the Wachiwi hair style, OK. Thanks.

Opacity is not the only thing, Gloss, Specular, and reflection will also need to be turned off. Or you will end up with that ghost whatever stuff FW Eve is looking at, lol.

P.S. that charm hair did not work out by the way.

Guess we're talking about two different things here then. I haven't seen any "ghosts" yet when doing this, but thanks for the advice, it might come in useful.

I've also tried to edit textures in cases where using opacity didn't work (hair strands were part of the main mesh) but it's not always possible and it can be difficult to see what you actually have to edit.

Generally I don't like those tiny strands running down on the front of the face which many hairs have. They can spoil an otherwise good hair, even if they look somewhat natural which they not always do. Artists should always make it possible to hide these one way or another, IMO.

Agreed, there are many styles I don't use, because the hair is in the eyes, or completely hides the eyebrows. whom wants hair in there eyes, not me. It's why I'm a bald wizard in training, lol.

I do allot of testing with "Progressive scan" turned on, it shows up with styles that have gloss with the all out render and not the progressive scan mode. Not all hair styles have gloss as well.

I have that style by EandJ and did use it in the past, I just never looked into it that deeply.

If you are seeing specular "ghosts" of surfaces that have opacity set to 0, just turn multiply specular through opacity (not at the DAZ machine right now, so I may have the channel name not quite right) to ON. The OFF setting is appropriate for things like glass that has a very low opacity but you still want high specularity. Think of the "multiply" like a mathematical function. When you multiply the specular setting by zero opacity, the specularity becomes zero. You don't have to actually change any specular of glossy values in the surfaces tab.
