DAZ not using GPU

Daz is not using my GPU in my Asus laptop.

In Render Settings > Advanced with CPU unchecked, immediately renders to black.

Having both CPU and CUDA checked uses CPU 100% and GPU 0 percent.

Under Advanced > General:

Allow CPU Fallback is unchecked

Allow GPU Detection  - Checked

Check GPU Driver Version - Checked.

Has anyone experienced this. Solution?

What kind of GPU has the laptop?

I had one with a Geforce 1660Ti with 6 GB Ram.

Sometimes I had the same problems. Until I configured that DAZ should use a specific GPU (you may "google" for that. Because all Links I have are in german. But you may find several sites in english also).

But even with that some renders would not work and use the CPU (as Example a G8F with Cute Braids Hair - which works fine on my PC with 8 GB GPU but also much more RAM).

How are you checking the GPU usage? Task Manager's default report does not show CUDA activity - go to the Perfomance tab, select the GPU in the list of items on the left, and set one of the graphs to show CUDA - is it still at 0%?

The black screen render is what I get when mine tries to drop to CPU which I have disabled also.  Sounds like your scene is to big for your vram.

Just posted in the tech part re a similar issue. Running out of VRAM is an issue with CPU disabled, which again is the only way to ensure you are running CUDA only. So, the dauinting task would be to isolate the items that clog the VRAM and optimize or replace. In my case I could track it down to a certain character incl assets and without the scene fits fine. Further inspection of the log revealed it is not the geometry but must be texture/shader related, which seems plaisible as the draw mode will not load any shaders beyond the silver gray sheen stage. And I'm to the point closing in on  dforce Ophelie Hair as the root but it would be a great help to know a tool that can analyse the predicted load on the VRAM per asset befroe hiting the render button and watch DS stall.

Is it called CUDA? I do not have that choice? Nvidia GTX 760.

Are you using Windows 10? I'm not sure that option existed in earlier versions.

GTX 760 is a Kepler card. Those are not supported by Iray anymore, the last build supporting Kepler card was in DS4.12.

I am in Windows 10. Did not know the card is not supported. It works in DazStudio. Perhaps does not help that much? Seems like the CPU doe most of the rendering.

When it comes to Iray, your GPU is all-or-nothing. You can use your CPU to supplement a GPU render, but if the scene doesn't fit onto your GPU, or if the GPU is no longer supported, it's not going to do anything.

I get the sense that the Geforce RTX 3000 series are the ones to beat in terms of price/performance.

Many are hard to find or over priced - priced beyond the MSRP.
Are there less expensive cards that hit the sweet spot?
Or two combined instead of one?

The latest Windows 10 update to 21H1 has removed the CUDA option from the task manager. The '3D' graph now includes CUDA activity!

No reactions from tomsfo1. Maybe he has a solution or is not interested in the suggestions here?
