    I don't see that you would gain much by using such a hi-res format for bumps or displacement, Studio can already use 16 bit gray scale TIFF files. I agree using both a bump map and normal map is redundant, however using a bump or normal with a displacement map is not. A displacement map should be kept relatively simple so it just adds those details that cannot easily be modeled in to the mesh without adding a lot of polygons. Bump or normal maps would still be used to add the illusion of very fine details.
