Installation Problems - Poser 2010

I just got the reticule set, and I can't get it recognized in poser. I even made a runtime folder just for the reticule set, unzipped it there,
and poser will not recognize the folder as a runtime folder. Which means: I cannot add it to my libraries in poser. Cannot use it.

And yet the item is advertised as being usable in Poser. So how do I get this to work in Poser?

I just installed the runtime to my downloads directory for PoserPro 2010. Clicked on the icons and they came in with the error that the files are for a newer version of Poser but they loaded just fine. I would check that you do have the correct structure and naming convention that Poser needs.
File structure and directory names for my Poser runtime is as follows:
[size=4]Poser Pro 2010 Content Under this directory are:
    Downloads Under this directory are:
    Other
Runtime (This is where I installed the reticule set)
    Scenes
    Temp
    Utils
    Runtime
    Scenes
I did have to add the Download->Runtime folder to my library to be able to see it. Hope this helps

Ok then, I tried adding it as a subfolder under downloads, but I still get the same message. BTW, I'm able to install
my other poser content just fine with it being in the downloads category.

Why do they have to make things harder? I'm starting to miss the cumbersome old daz installers, at least they
    worked.

I unzipped just the Runtime from inside the content folder using WinRar straight to my selected Poser Runtime. Found it under AprilYSH in Props

I can't ADD it to the poser libraries because poser is telling me is is not a runtime folder! So how then can I find it under props?????

And, I do have a poser.exe file in my external runtime. I know about that.

I downloaded the zip manually and then just unzipped the Runtime folder from within the content folder. You could also unzip it to a temp folder if you don't have an unzipper that allows you to just unzip the parts you want, and then drag an drop the Runtime folder to merge it with your existing one. There is a Runtime folder, within the Content folder.

Are you talking about an external runtime? because that is what I have.

PS: I know there's a runtime folder in the content folder, I saw it. Poser does not recognize it as a runtime folder, so I can't add it to my poser library.

This is how the files looks when opened in WinRar.

The first is the zip in total. Clicking on content within WinRar then brings you to the 2nd Image, on that one you can click Runtime and then on extract, and you get the option as to where you want to extract the Runtime to

You can get a trial (evaluation) copy of WinRar. I am trying the 64 bit version to see if it is better than my existing 32 bit version, as you can see in the screen caps

Thank you, I have winrar, and even used it to unzip this very file.

Poser does not recognize it as a runtime folder, so therefor I can't ADD it to my poser library. I'm sorry I have to keep repeating my problem, but maybe eventually somebody will understand it.

EDIT: Ok, here is what works: Unzip it to your runtime folder. IN this case I called it: reticule set.
Then open that folder, open the content folder and select the runtime folder. Cut it, then go back up one level, and paste.
The delete the content folder. That messes everything up.

DO YOU HEAR ME April YSH? Thanks for the props, please don;t make us tear our hair out because you don't understand that the content folder will mess everything up!

So it looks like this on my hard drive:

C:\all external runtimes\ reticule set \runtime \ geometries, libraries and etc.

Nope, no content folder anywhere! With the content folder in there in between "reticule set" and "runtime", it is UNUSABLE.

    PLEASE re-package this!

I am sorry you didn't understand what I was trying to tell you. All DAZ 3D zips are done in this manner, with a Content folder, and the runtime inside the content folder. It is done that way because this structure is needed for the DIM to work.

You need to take the Runtime out of the content folder.

Direct WinRAR to just unzip the runtime not the Content folder, you don't need that at all, renamed or otherwise.

I am going to split this conversation out from the Giveaway thread an make it into a new thread called Installation problems - Poser 2010

That is because to see a runtime, you can only map one directory level up from a runtime to see the contents of the runtime. That is how the Poser catalog is designed. So if all you did was unzip and drop the content file under the reticule set directory you would have to map to the content directory instead of your reticule set directory. Which in your case you do not want, because your library name would be Content and that tells you nothing about what is in the mapped directories. I know because I have that. Since I do not use Poser as my primary render choice I put up with having two directories that are named Content. See image below. The image also shows you how I had to map Downloads to the library to see the runtime under it.

From your comments it would seem that you have not bought many products here at DAZ. As Cho has said the file structure you see in AprilYSH's gift is standard for this store and it is the store's prerogative as to how they are going to package content not the artist's.
Asking AprilYSH to re-package will get you nowhere because she has no control over that side of the business. I would suggest that you contact the store through their help desk if you feel strongly about this issue and direct your concerns to them.

Last thing, from your comments I am not sure you were successful in finding you presents so just to make sure, once you get the new runtime cataloged you are looking under Props to find the fan and purse, right? I ask this because the fan is rigged and has a cr2 file and those are usually under figures. Poser recognizes the cr2 file type under props as well. Had me befuddled when I first went looking so just making sure we are square.

Hope this clears up some things for you. Happy Holidays
