With just the preloaded scenes, it's pretty resource heavy. I guess it depends on your system also.
I have found it not that bad, it tends to use 3-4GB of VRAM when I only use Ultrascenery, which considering how many 10's of thousands of objects are in the scene it is not that bad. I have also found that it renders pretty fast.
I have known a single HD dressed Genesis 8 character take up more resources.
Unfortunately, if you rely on the Iray preview like I do to build out your scene, forget it.
It hasn't been bad all for me on my system - in fact, I found it amazingly light, but then I have two Xeon processors, 64 gigs of ram and 6 gigs on the video card. Take that as you will.
Iray preview does work, as long as you set the Instancing Optimization to Memory. However it is difficult to make many changes whilst doing this, and moving the camera is very slow.
You might want to look at the PA's own thread https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/466351/ultrascenery-new-territory-commercial
Something must have changed...I would try the Iray preview on my system w/ 32GB of RAM and 11GB 1080TI and even with the Instancing Optimization set as recommended, it would still freeze. Then again, that was when I was trying to use it on a 4k monitor, so the Iray preview was larger and required more resources to push than my older 1080p monitor. I'm on a 1440p monitor now...I wonder if I should try again.
I am using 4.12 and have a 1080ti. Ultrascenery in Iray preview isn't bad if my graphics driver is version 442.19. However, I regularly have to check to see if the driver has been updated in the background. Despite "telling" Windows and Nvidia not to update the driver, it happens regularly. When it updates and I forget to look, US is a bear to work with, and I close DS, check the driver, and complete a clean install with the older driver. I also avoid TangoAlpha's add-ons. There is something different about how they are created (vs. Howie's) and they grind the Iray preview to a halt; ending with having to close DS in the task manager.
same here (6700K and rtx2080ti). The product does look fantastic, but the problem with products like this is for me their main use is as a backdrop, so once you add figures, clothing, hair, etc, it's pretty much unusable. Hopefully when I get my new rig in a few months, things will be better
Yeah, that's exactly it. My artwork is generally a SubD 4 figure (sometimes just one, sometimes two) with dForce clothing and dForce hair at the forefront and then a pretty involved background. But I always put the subject together first and then do the background to suit my subject. Trying to do that with US was pretty much impossible unless I was doing something very wrong.
I tried to use it once and it crashed Daz and my PC. Havent tried it again since which is a shame cause I would love to use it
Chances are that you had optimization set to 'speed' not 'memory'. That kills any system in short order. It will crash like that.
To answer the OP, if you have a 6Gb GPU and at least 16Gb RAM, you should be fine with 2 figures and US. My 6Gb GTX 1060 takes around 2-3 hours for a 1960 x 1080 render. HTH

Richard.
Probably. I will have to give it ago again sometime however it is not the only product I own that does this
Any product making use of a lot of instances is likely to have the same problem.
I have clothing items that do this haha. Bikini Island does as well (basically just water with a few trees and an island). I just assumed they were to polygon heavy and have the decimator in my wish list for when it comes down a little more.
I think Accelerator helps. https://www.daz3d.com/accelerator-for-ultrascenery
You can build Ultrascenery scenes much faster when using the accelerator, but it makes no difference to the issues some people have said they are facing.
I'm using Windows 8.1 and have no problems with US. For those of you who ARE having issues, what OS are you running?
Win 10 Pro 20H2, RYZEN 7 1800X, 32GB RAM, 1080TI. I haven't tried it since switching from a 4k monitor to a 1440p monitor. But on the 4k monitor the viewport Iray preview (not the microscopic tiny box Iray preview) would freeze and result in needing to crash out Daz.
Windows 10
I am using Windows 10 and I have no issues with US at all.
TD
I'm still on Win7 and have no problems. AMD FX-6100 SixCore 32GB RAM and GeForce GTX1080Ti.
Made my first steps today and now I'm so overwhelmed. Almost every scene I tested came out so beautiful and realistic and the building time is just around 1min with the accelerator, optimization to memory and restricted to the camera. Even the render is nice after a few minutes. Had a first try when USC came out but to wait 30min for creating the scene and then again for correcting some things was far beyond my patience. Now it works like a charme and I wished I had more ideas for scenes deep in the forrest or on sunny meadows. Unfortunately I'm more the indoor renderer ;) Have to figure out some tricks but both threads are very helpful. Summary: what a great product!
I am also using Windows 10, fully patched with all the latest drivers, and have no issues with US at all.
A question for those that say you have no issues.
Do you mean with rendering or iray preview? It renders fast, but Iray preview is painfully slow for me.
I have an RTX 2070.
Iray preview...I rely heavily on that to set my scenes up for lighting, etc.
I don't use Iray preview...my little card just can't handle it. I do a quick render when I need to.
I have an RTX 2070 Super and the IRAY preview is also far too slow and I hardly ever use it, I use texture shaded and the actual rendering doesn't take that long, usually just a few minutes.
One thing that cam massively help your computer handling Iray preview is going into the render settings and setting the max render time to something like 10-20 seconds
I use this all the time for lighting in iray preview on a laptop with a 1060.especially for moving around the camera and lights where nothing hasto be reloaded onto the card. Setting the max rendertime low keep things from overheating
you just have to remember to set it back for your final render. I have added shorcuts to do it right next to the render button
