I have been reinstated! Reversal of Youtube ban. Woohoo.

Remember this tale for discussions of people who feel they were unfairly banned from Youtube or similar video hosting service.

I was banned from Youtube.

I know, you are probably thinking that I must have posted fraudulent investment scams, heinous pornography, or malicious and unfounded political slander.  Nope, nothing of the sort.  I only used my Youtube channel to post practice animations as I was trying to learn 3D software.  I have no ads or links or solicitations on my channel.  My uploads consist of a test of the Fluidos plugin water flowing over a multi-tiered fountain, a racetrack drive-through as seen by a camera parented to a car racing through a figure 8 track, a 'cyclopstritch' toon flightless bird walking, and a crystal ball going from glass to cloudy to a forest.  Everything is modeled, rigged, and animated by me (not a rights issue).  After getting a warning for 'spam and scam' on my Fluidos plugin test animation, and somehow losing the appeal, I waited more than 90 days to upload another test animation (three 'strikes' in a 90 day period results in a permanent ban).

My ban resulted from a practice animation in which I was testing how to animate shaders on an object.  I modeled my own 3 layer crystal ball.  I rendered my own 3D forest landscape (spherical render).  I produced a 5 second animation of a crystal ball transitioning from crystal to cloudy glass to a forest scene.  That is it.  No words, no background music, no ads.  When uploading, I deliberately chose to limit the distribution to linked rather than make for the general public.  There is no way this was either spam or scam.  Here is the test animation hosted elsewhere.  See.

https://odysee.com/@diomede01:7/diocrystal01mp4:c

That animation was initially blocked by Youtube and I was given a warning for spam and scams.  When I appealed the warning, I lost!  Really. When I lost the appeal, my Youtube channel was blocked from further uploads.  Really.  I expressed my frustration in multiple 3D community forums, including one Daz3D software forum (Carrara).  I also submitted complaints to the FCC and to my Congressman's office.

Good news.  My crystal ball test animation has been unblocked and my Youtube ban has been lifted.  Youtube must have done a second review of their denial of my appeal of their initial block.  Thank you to everyone in my 3D community who offered helpful suggestions and commiseration through this frustrating experience, and a special thank you if anyone with connections provided a silent flag for additional review.

(1) Deep sigh of relief.

(2) Hearty laugh now that it is over (hopefully).  laugh

Congrats. A number of YouTubers got demonetized or flagged recently, so you are lucky!

YouTube has become such a pain for many lately. Did they ever tell you why it was flagged as spam?

The initial blockage message said I violated their TOS for spam and scams.  It offered no detail how my specific crystal ball / forest image was either spam or a scam.  It just has a link to their TOS.  Similarly, when I appealed and lost, there was just a message saying I lost the appeal and that I could not upload anymore.  There was no explanation of the basis upon which I lost my appeal.  Up to this point, it was exactly the same as my first strike, which was a test of the Fluidos water plugin.  Again, an unexplained assertion that running water is spam or a scam with a link to the TOS, followed by a notification that I had lost the appeal and earned a 'strike.'

It must be some autonomous software that did this to you. ....I am banned from Amazon after attempting to buy a PC last year with my prepaid debit card that is accepted everywhere else in the global economy. ....all attempts to contact them generated a canned programmed response implying I was some nefarious criminal yet they spam my facebook feed with offers to subscribe to amazon prime....incredible!!

I hate these ultra-large companies sometimes because of stuff like this. Everything is automated and impersonal. Reaching a real person can be nigh impossible. I tried to get help from google once, and literally, all they let me do was "submit feedback." Not even a ticket option!

    Anyway, congrats on getting reinstated!!!!

After being treated like that, are you going to actually bother with them ever again?

YouBoob is a joke. Just like FB and the only reason I'm on FB is because I'm in a couple groups. Don't even really need those.

Facebook has locked me out because I cannot veify the 2 level security. Who told them I wanted 2 level security? I have the ultimate facebook security. I don't post things that I don't want to be seen. As long as facebook doesn't scam me into giving them information they don't need, I am 100% secure. I don't see them matching that.

Anybody know anything about 2 level security? I need a log in key but they don't send it to me. I think they have a bad phone number.

Lots of places are doing the 2-step thing. FB, Apple ID, PayPal.... it's getting to be more trouble than it's worth almost. LOL

Yeah... At work, they tried forcing me to "upgrade" my pocket-size Nokia that has real buttons and 1 week battery life to one of those "smart" phones that one must keep fondling the "right way" before they will cooperate, because Microsoft wanted the 2 stage identification to be done with one... In the end I instructed the "Support Professionals" of the ways it could be done without the suitcase sized useless toy that must be recharged every two hours...

Anyway... I can't even identify myself face to face ever since they stopped accepting drivers licence as an ID (EU thing), why would I need to do it online - Not even my computer knows, who I am... If anyone is interested, they should ask my mom. cheeky

That's hilarious and so on the money in describing automated answers.

YouTube's algorithm is a joke, many on the site have run into problems with strikes and bans because of it. The only other place for video's that many use is Twitch, however, your recordings only stay up for 30 days unless you take the video and make sections to upload, those stay up indefinitely. Of course the layout for the uploaded video's might be problematic.

Congrats on getting you channel back. That had to be frustrating. It's really irriating when companies can ban an account with little to no just cause given. I've heard it happens to a lot of YouTubers though.

Oh boy, you nailed it. That's just the feeling I come away with after being "helped" by some automated response system. I want to invoke Mr. Robot and crash the system.

    To the OP.

    I believe you, 100%.

I mentioned, in another thread about 4-6 weeks ago, a guy named Rick Beato (pronounced "beeahtoe"), who runs a couple of YouTube channels on music, music theory, and ear training.  He offers paid training as well as a lot of free content on his channels.  He has had his YouTube channel locked before by the same YouTube bots.  He always fights it and he always wins, even though he runs the risk of losing his channel if he loses his appeal.

The thing is, he's ALREADY being demonitized, so what more can you do to him for providing free educational content?  Inquiring minds want to know, was he "demonitized", or is he being "demonized", hmmm?

Anyway, he runs a legitimate educational effort out of Atlanta, Georgia (USA) and he has interviewed some absolutely amazing musicians, such as Jon Anderson from the band Yes, the great guitar player Steve Vai, the guitar maker Paul Reed Smith, guitarist Peter Frampton, bass guitarist and educator Victor Wooten, a great UK indie artist named Mary Spender, jazz bass guitarist and educator Adam Neely, who is also a music theory powerhouse in his own right, and many people young and old who are active in the music industry.  Mr. Beato has chops in every style of music from blues to rock to classical.  Mr. Beato understands theory as well as any college professor (although he isn't one himself) and it shows that he truly APPRECIATES all genres, including classical, which should appeal to half the readers of The Commons.  He has also spoken on the floor of the US Congress (House of Representatives, I believe) on the subject of copyright protection.

And his YouTube offerings are absolutely ear-opening and educational, and most of it is free.  I enjoy his "What makes this song great?" series, where he has reviewed songs from Pink Floyd, White Stripes, The Who, Boston, The Cars, oh my, there are far too many to list here.

I mentioned some of the above in that post in The Commons, and lo and behold, my post got removed by the mods.

Just like that, "poof", my post gets removed, and I think the reason given was that I lied or said something un-factual.  Supposedly, this was decided on by a committee of moderators.  Okay, whatever.  But I can't even defend myself, because emails go unanswered, and further commentary on the forum would likely be met with...bad consequences.  So I have to let it drop, as much as it hurts my soul to do so.

This is NOT me dumping on DAZ and I'm not trying to start an argument.  My perspective is that the problem is not just in big companies, as claimed by somebody above.  It's everywhere, and often there's no appeal process, or the appeal process, if one exists, is predicated against the claimant.  This applies equally to music, photography, video, animation, 2D and 3D artwork, the written word, lyrics, poetry, just about anything we humans can create and share with others.  If it's been written, it or something like it has been shut down.

Luckily (I guess), it's rare for me to get deleted.

Like I said, I'm not dumping on DAZ, because this is not a "DAZ problem".  It's an EVERYBODY problem, that's what it is.  But yes, I believe the OP 100%.  He got deleted, he got banned, he got silenced.  I'm glad he was able to get the decision reversed, but I think that's rare.  There are a lot of people who are absolutely destroyed because a person or bot reported them incorrectly (and maybe even with intended malice), and then they fail in their appeal attempt.

I know we're not going to solve it here, but man oh man, I wish things could be different, I really do.

Ugh, Google's entire report and appeal process is ludicrous - for all their products.

An example, although not YT related: the other week a member of staff decided it would be a good idea to post a positive review of our company. I spotted this at the weekend and in an effort to avoid repercussions (SERP penalties for example), I reported the review as a conflict of interest (it falls under Google's own TOS). They responded saying it was fine and they saw nothing wrong. I had to contact the person in question to rescind their review on the Monday.

    Congratulations on being reinstated.yes

But as long as we're talking about large corporation mentality...  Just yesterday I had minor round with Amazon.  I had ordered a computer power supply, it got lost during shipping on the day that it was supposed to be delivered and had supposedly been tracked to the local distribution point.surprise  Like Christmas morning I anxiously waited for the box to appear on my porch.  By that evening I checked the tracking data again and it was marked "UNDELIVERABLE",frown and there was an email from Amazon reporting that it had been damaged in shipping, was being returned, and I would be refunded within 5 days of the product being received back at Amazon.  Yay, OK, the system works automatically.  I ordered another power supply and slept soundly for a week while anticipating the replacement PS and my refund to arrive.

The replacement PS arrived within three days, however, after two weeks I started trying to contact Amazon to find out where my refund was.indecision  After several failed attempts at using their website menu based help system and digging deep into their website I finally stumbled on a link to phone in my problem.   After worming my way through the phone menu a couple of times (I gave up in frustration the first couple of times), I finally did reach a live human being.  UNFORTUNATELY, she had a very high frequency voice (which I cannot hear well), in an almost indecipherable accent.  I gave my apologies and hung up.  A little while later I called again and this time got a very knowlegable hearable male voice, yay!  It took a few tries to make him realize the nature of the problem (you, my fine readers understood immediately didn't you?).  He kept trying to tell me how to return the defective unit.  Several times I diplomatically told him that I didn't have the %##$#@ defective unit! (*sigh*).  But finally he grokked, the lightbulb went off in his head and he said "I need to talk to my supervisor" (*head smack*).  OK, so a few minutes later he comes back after checking the order status and tracking record and says that the unit had indeed been declared "Undeliverable" but they had not received it yet, however, they will refund my money immediately.  But asked that if the unit does still arrive, please, return it, at no cost. (Well, duh, of course it's no cost, that's why I pay them every month for "Amazon Prime" service.)  I keep wondering how do they handle things like FedEx trucks going off a bridge or slow boats from China sinking?  It must happen to them once in a while, is this such a special event that it confuses their people?

Regardless, my replacement PS did arrive and works fine, and I finally did get my refund.  The point of my longwinded tome is that sometimes the big guys do sometimes get it right eventually, but you have to explain things to them like they are a five year old child, over and over (without getting noticeably angry) until you get through their "we know best" attitude.  (*sigh, life*)  Or in the words of Marvin the Paranoid Android "Life, don't tell me about life."smiley

I have to agree with the person who asked why you'd want to post anything else on there with them.  I get there's a lot of traffic, but I'd be done with them and use Vimeo, even if I had to pay for it.
