Very New to Daz Studio
Sorry for the incredibly noob question ut the Daz Studio characters, addons, accessories, etc. are very confusing to navigate through.
For instance there are many characters that are Genisis 8/8.1 but what is Genisis 8/8.1? Isn't it itself a character as well? And what is the difference in all the "people" that are listed as Genesis 8/8.1 characters? How does it all work and how are things all connected? Where does a person start to make sense of just what they are searching through.
Thank you and very sorry if te question is not clear but have not been sucessful in finding anything that plainly and clearly maps out just how things work together and are connected in regards to the store and characters. To be clear, purchasing is not an issue, the problem I'm having is before that and knowing just what exactly is being bought and if it will work with other items.

Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1 are two pairs of figures, male and female. The various characters have maps to change the surface appearance and morphs to change the shape of those base figures.
The base figures Genesis 1,2,3,8 and 8.1 male and female you get for free when you "buy" the free DAZ Studio program

Understandable, it can be overwhelming at first as is everything new with so much content ;)

The Genesis base character line of 3d models has evolved over time, and with each installment of upgrades to the base figures comes a new version number with Genesis 8.1 being the latest. The difference between Genesis 8 and Genesis 8.1 is the expressions and shaders. The clothing, poses (w/o expressions), hair and other props are interchangeable between the two. So, if you have a dress that you purchased for Genesis 8 females, it is also compatible w/ Genesis 8.1 females and etc.

Yes, Genesis 8 Males, Genesis 8 Females, Genesis 8.1 Males and Genesis 8.1 Females are characters though they are considered "base characters" and are included with the FREE download of Daz Studio.

All of the other "characters" you see that are sold in the store that have real world names are characters that once purchased/installed can be "dialed in" on the base characters I mentioned previously, just make sure you check the compatibility on the product page of whichever character you are interested in.
Where does a person start to make sense of just what they are searching through.
Once you install and fire up Daz Studio, head over to your Content Library which is available in Daz Studio and go to "People" > "Genesis 8 Female" > "Characters" and double click on the icon that is labeled "Genesis 8 Female" or "Genesis 8.1 Female". You'll notice that the character will be added to the scene. You'll have a limited amount of "morphs" you can dial in and combine to create your own "original" looking character, pretty much like the way you would create a character in an MMO.
Let's say you want more variety in terms of morphs you can dial in, then that's when you head over to the store and search for Genesis 8 Male or Females morphs, characters and clothing. Once installed, you can add those on to your character in the scene as you please.

All good, when I came across Daz years ago I too was confused and funny enough quit on learning all together since there was so much going on in the store in terms of content that it just seemed like a mission and too hard to start anywhere. Now I create and sell products here, funny how things turn out :)
