Question regarding tattoos

Hi, I don't know if I put this in the right place... I hope I did, if not apologies in advance.
BUt I was just wondering.... I create characters myself and I like adding tattoos, but due to the UV mapping it is sometimes a bit of a nightmare when you want to create a tattoo that goes over the seams... so I was just looking for good programs that might help with that. Where I can use a picture and put it on the skin even though it goes over the seams, like starting on the back and going all the way down say the arm or the leg, which would mean going over a couple of seams. So I am looking for a program in which I could do that and then save the image to then use in my mat... any good suggestions?
Thanks
Fred

For my Gryffon Tattoos set (at ShareCG), I used Blacksmith3D Paint to print my image onto models' backs, usually across a texture seam. It is my program of choice, anymore, for texture map creation. Then a high-contrast or B&W image of the tattoo on a white texture can be applied in DS to any skin tone via the Diffuse Strength channel.
Thanks for letting me know, I shall check it out, i did see it before, but couldnt see anywhere there where it said about adding pictures to the already excisting texture jpgs, maybe i just didnt read it all right, so I shall check it out again. :) And of course as soon as I have the image then as a jpg i can easily get it to be on the skin myself, just needed to know what program would help me create this to start with. SO thanks for that. :)
Do you use poser or ds? Windows or Mac?
There is decal master in the store that looks like that might work.
Thanks for that, I am using windows and both programs, poser and ds
when you said in teh shop, are you refering to this site? :)
There's a couple of different options, depending on the quality you need for the final tattoo, too-
Myself, I use an old old version of DeepPaint 3d for a lot of stuff, but it's really low res on the outcome.
I beleive you can do a form of projection painting (painting on a UV'ed mesh in a 3d enviroment) in Hexagon, free from Daz here. http://seppukuarts.wordpress.com/2012/04/28/hexagon-basics-painting/ , http://slandeara.blogspot.com/2008/05/modeling-vase-in-daz-hexagon-25-part.html for example. You can get Hexagon here: http://www.daz3d.com/products/hexagon/hexagon-what-is-hexagon/
Bodypaint from Maxon is good for projection painting also, and comes with version forms of C4d or stand alone: http://www.maxon.net/products/bodypaint-3d/why-this-package.html
Blacksmith3d has already been mentioned.
I remember hearing a bit about Mudbox before too, but have no details on it..
Good luck, and have fun- once you find the program that suits your style and budget, you may find yourself using it for a lot more then tattoo's, also. It quickly becomes one of those tools that you wonder why you never had it before :)
Thanks for those many more to look at... I shall see how it goes and which one I go with. I notice blacksmith has a trial version, so might give that a try and see how it goes and take it from there... let's see how it goes :)
Thanks again to everyone for your help. :)
It is this http://www.daz3d.com/shop/decalmaster/
I have been eying that product but have not gotten it yet. I do not know how well it works or does not work.
