Scene Lights default setting?

Does anyone know how to set the Scene Lights set to On by default?

I don't load photometric lights with my default scene and I use the default scene to set up my characters with morphs, clothing, etc. I have tried saving the default scene with the Scene Lights (CTRL-L) set on but it just reverts to off next time I load. I swear this used to be configurable but I can't remember how.

What do you mean? Preview Lights is on by default 9that is, DS tries to preview the lighting) - are you wanting it off, so that DS instead uses a non-rendering pseudo headlamp?

I don't know what you call Preview Lights but in DAZ Studio there is something called Scene Lights which can be toggled with CTRL-L. In my DAZ Studio 4.15.0.2 that is off by default and I want it to load in the On state because I only have HDRi lighting in my default scene. HDRi is not recognised as a light so the scene is completely dark (unlit) in the Texture Viewport (it is fine in the IRay preview because HDRi works in IRay).

Ah, ok - I think I get it. I looked up Preview Lights in the documentation and we are talking about the same thing. However, there seems to be an assumption that the camera headlight will be on so the Scene Lights (Preview Lights) is off by default. I always make sure my camera headlight is off otherwise it interferes with my lighting when I compose the scene. So I need the preview (scene) lights on.

    What's This?
    Use Scene Lights

When you add lights to a scene, they may not appear to have any effect unless you turn this mode on. When Use Scene Lights is off, only a default single light (called a “headlight”) is used to light your scene. When this mode is on, the headlight is turned off and only the lights in the scene are used to light the scene.

[EDIT] ... Nah ... that description is totally confusing. CTRL-L toggles the "Scene Lights" which light the scene if there are no physical (photometric) lights present.

If you turn that on it tries to use scene lights to light your scene. If you have no lights or HDRI everything will be dark. If you turn it off you'll be able to see what you're doing.

It's not saved in the scene file - its an app setting so next time you open Studio it'll remember what you had it on when you closed it.

Right so my confusion is over the definition of On and Off. For me I want to see what I am doing so I toggle that icon (CTRL-L). That allows me to see what I'm doing so I consider that as the light being on.

Preview Lights is a command - when it is on DS has been told to try to preview the actual lights (and will use the headlamp if there aren't any, in redner and preview). When it is off, and DS isn't previwing the lights, then a pseudo headlamp is used which isn't used in renders and isn't controlled by the headlamp switches.

Right, so I was confused by the terminology. Sometimes it is called Scene Lights (as in the tool tip when you hover over the icon) and you call it the Preview Lights command. I was also confused about its function as it seems I had it backwards. With Scene Lights on it is using the actual lights loaded into the scene and when off it uses the pseudo-light. THAT pseudo-light is the one that I want to be operating when I load my default scene because I don't have any actual lights in my default scene so, to update my OP, how do I do that?

I'm not sure that you can, other than through an auto-load script. Edit: I'm not sure it is scrptable, either - not seeing the option in the objects I'd expect.

OK - sorry for the wild goose chase then. I should probably log it with support as a suggestion but I've never had any luck with my suggestions in the past so I am not very hopeful.
