DAZ Studio fails to start

I've noticed this problem for a while but put it down to my hesitant mouse click on the DAZ Studio desktop icon. However, I have been checking recently and it sometimes happens that I will click the icon and the cursor changes to the one with a spinning blue circle (Windows 10). I then checked the Task Manager and, sure enough, it shows DAZ Studio using a lot of CPU. But then that usage dies down and the application fails to start. No Splash screen appears and I can't try again until the Task Manager shows no trace of DAZ Studio.

My version of DAZ Studio is 4.15.0.2.

Do you have multiple monitors plugged in and one of them is off?  I've noticed that since a few windows and nvidia updates ago my DAZ likes to open on random monitors, and usually one that is not turned on.  I've got to go through them one by one to find it running.

Having DS running will block the same instance from running a second time (see Daz Studio Pro 4.12 - instances ), but I assume the first time it fails to start it definitelty isn't running even in the background? What security software are you using, and is DS set to log-in on launch?

I am pretty sure that this happens mostly just after I start Windows or after coming out of Sleep mode. I'm certainly not running another instance at the time. Security software - Windows Security and Malwarebytes Premium.

    I have only one monitor.

I did wonder whether going into Sleep mode before DAZ Studio has completely closed (it can take quite a long time to end all tasks depending on the scene) maybe keeps it in the task list waiting to resume after coming out of Sleep?

Yes, going into Sleep while DS was still tidying up would mean it was lurking on restart. I'd be a little wary of even trying to enter sleep mode while soemthign like that was going on, just in case it caused issues.

It is not something that is obvious though. Unless we have the Task Manager open, we have no idea that the DS process is still running. This slow shutdown does seem be an issue going by the number of comments here on the forum.

Even if they can't improve the shutdown times, they perhaps could display a notice like "DAZ Studio is completing shutdown ..."?
