How to lock X,Y,Z and offset a bone ?

Hi-- just looking to change a few animations.
These are pre-made aniMate 2 blocks.
First question:
how do you lock the x, y, and z of a bone ?
Like a hand ?
I've tried to pin rotation and translation... didn't see any difference.
Second question:
how to you offset a bone,, for something like a foot in an animation ?
For example: lifting just the right foot a few inches during a walk cycle,

Sorry if I didn't describe this properly.
I want to play an animation, but 'freeze' the position and rotation of a hand.
Currently, this animation contains ALOT of movement.
The hands both swing and sway as the character walks.
How do I over-ride the animation of one limb to make it stationary ?
