Moving directory from C:

James_HJames_H Posts: 1,046

OK, I ought to know this.

Just reinstalling stuff in the hope that G8F will open before the end of time.

I seem to have a lot on my small C: drive. How can I get this on to my D: drive, recognised DIM and in Daz. There don't seem to be oiptions for changing this in DIM. I can push things I install to another drive, but there seem to be 30+ Gb on C; and my C: drive is tight. I know how to change directories around in Daz itself, but DIM won't let me change the recommended location from C:

Any advice gratefuilly received. Too hot to think at the moment.

All you have to do is open the Advanced Settings in DIM, open the Installation tab, click on the + button to create a new install location, then set Content Path Shortcuts to your new location.

So then I can delete the C: stuff once copied to new location?

    Yes

Depending on how you install content via DIM or Connect or DAZ central

I have my content on my F: drive and have two folders

F:\My Daz 3D LIbrary and F:\My Daz Connect Library

Now my SSD C: drive gets bored but my F: Harddisk drive is way bigger loading times were only slighty slower but not running out of space is better

I am rendering so cant see the setup dialog to confirm

I just went through this last week.

In addition to the two folders mentioned above by Pitmatic (both of which are in the Public Documents folder) I also moved over the My Library folder from "C:\Users\<UserName>\My Documents\Daz 3D\Studio" since I use that to hold content I download from other sources, e.g. Rendo or freebies etc.

If you have DIM set to the default of saving downloads after installing then I suggest also moving those since they can use up a lot of space too. Move the "C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Daz 3D\Daz3D InstallManager" folder which contains the zips plus some other DIM data (filters and manifests)

I also have the folders for my renderings on another drive (D: in my case) plus a folder to contain previous versions of Daz3D Studio and the corresponding default resources for each version.

    Hope this helps!

Edit: There was a recent thread with info and links that you may find useful.

DIM makes it easy - there are your settings (the gear cog) where you can change your library to install to.

First, make a CSV of all of your installed content.  Then you can uninstall the content via DIM.  Go to the Advanced Settings, and set the Library path to install to.  After you've done that, you can load the CSV file for content to install, and then let it rip.  It should have all the content you had installed before installed at the new library location.

Content from other stores you move manually (I install them in another library to make it easier).
