More HD Questions

I bought Michael6 HD and also Gianni6 HD. In the Readme for Michael6, it says

"More definition, and more details, without significant system overhead.
See your details updated in real time (Viewport subdivision must be turned on).
Fine details that don't rely on image maps and work across UV sets."

First question: Is the "viewport subdivision" the same as the subdivision in the Parameters tab?

What should the subdivision in the Parameters tab be turned up to? I would guess 2, but someone told me to turn off limits and turn it up to 3.

Another person told me that you don't have to turn it up and that when you render, the HD part will automatically take care of rendering the HD correctly.

Still another person told me that I should turn the Parameters subdivision up to 3 only if I am going to render by using Reality4 and Lux, that Lux wants or needs the subdivision level to be up to 3.

I've tried to find answers to this in the readmes, but I can't.

Yes, that is the setting - it won't affect the render in DAZ Studio using 3Delight, it's so you can get some idea of how it will look in the preview though it does also affect things like LuxRender that work on exported geometry. Most HD morphs are made at level 3 or 4, as far as I know, though you probably don't want to set the preview level to 4 for general use (remember that every level quadruples the polygon count).

Thank you. And what about the part of the readme that says "Fine details that don’t rely on image maps and work across UV sets”?

Does this mean that after I've loaded HD on Michael 6, I could change the texture and still have the HD take effect? (I don't think it works that way.)

No, it means that the HD details will work with any maps - using a displacement map overlay, for example, would work only with texture sets that used the same UV set.

Richard, I think the limit is 3. That is the standard Daz told us to work with for now. If any HD morph is set at level 4, I would like to know myself what sets are at that level:)

Ah, I was just going from memory. Which is usually a mistake - I just need to remember that in future....
