is it too much to ask for some rice at a Korean BBQ?

edited June 2021 in The Commons

asking for a fren:

Fugazi1968? Ironman? I own many of your beautifully crafted and detailed products - (disclaimer:) as well as many of you other wonderful creators on and off daz3d.
But I do not understand why one product is left off on many "oriental food" themed products.  I mean, is it taboo? Kinjite? 禁じ手 or 禁手? But I digress.
I've recently contacted a newer artist regarding Rice Fields/Rice Paddies. Even some of the more colorful ones would be nice to see.
If I had a 100th of the talent MOST of you possess, I would go ballistic OCD creating a Rice Scene - down to the very grain itself.

For those of you that have never been to the outlying provinces, it's really incredible to see them planting, harvesting, drying (on the streets, mind you) and separating the grains.

wow, one can really go meticulate on this.chasing away your "Fighting Cock" and having to tie it up but close enough as a guard and protector of your prescious crop.

(speaking of crop, i'm looking forward to hemp, too - but again, i digress) But since i am on my soapbox - or ricebag,

yes, bag made out of coconut fibre . White rice, Brown rice, Purple Rice - Raw, Steamed, Bico (Sweet RIce) and even Fried Rice with Spam! Ah, I'm getting hungry.

Oh, Great! Now I've got to go hunt down a Filipino restaurant that has some decent Barbeque on a stick. Y'all get the picture, right?

Did anyone else come with me through the provice down that trip down memory lane?

I'd upload photos if you don't know what I'm talking about or havent opened up a side tab googling what I am describing.

Remember, It is better to render, than surrender.(yeah, i'm just trying to motivate myself to get back in the Daz3d groove, too)

Okay,. Thank you

Moved to Product Suggestions as it is not a Daz Studio question.

  • Thank you Richard Haseltie!
I hope someone will consider creating a similar product like Fugazi's.

I dunno - sometimes i think i'm the only one that still eats rice with their meals. also explains the extra fifty pounds of handsome i take along with me.

Yes, that would be a good idea, because it's not at all obvious to me what you're asking for (not that I have the talent to satisfy your request). Are you asking for a paddy field environment? Or some havested rice plants? Or some cooked rice in a bowl or on a plate? Or maybe all three?

Remember, not everybody has the same background as you, and what may be an everyday sight to you will be completely unknown to people elsewhere in the world. So a clear description of what you want, with pictures, is more likely to yield results.

Thank you all the same but I was just more or less venting that another Asian food scene lacks rice.

but somehow my rant wasn't taken for the snarky point I was trying to make.

This. This is, after all Daz3d - a sensibly and reasonably (for now) priced community.
I'm an old disabled veteran on a fixed income with failing eyesight and memory issues increasing as I stay locked up by the same country i used to defend, with an older ailianware on it's last leg - with half the keys sticking and renders that now take days -but I digress.

I like Daz3d and Daz3d People! Let me rephrase that -

I LOVES DAZ3D AND THE FINE PEOPLE THAT ARE DAZ3D Artists, providers and customers. Okay, I like you posers, too

But it Seems as if everyone is falling away from Daz3d as Daz3d continues to take advice from beancounters &  bored 0f directors (THIS misspelling is intentional)

Which in turn, is causing their 'other' great asset - the Content Creators to quit & caring for the customers that have not given up on them.

I had subcounsiosly purposely placed this in the general daz3d thread because this - "product suggestions" - is where ideas go to die.
Content Creators seldom come here, yet alone follow up on mentions of them or their products - albeit - they DO have better things to do.

For example - Has anyone seend Allesandro's Dingo yet? neither has Allesandro

@Alessandro_AM teased us about years ago before Kendall Sears passed away.

But again, i digress. if I want to settle for a nice bowl of rice, I'll go to www.hum3d.com.

I can get a bowl of rice for $20 dollars,  a dingo for $20 and ride home in a 1965 Marlin (for under $100!)

or, I can just go sulk in my kitchen, whip up a bowl of Turkey Spam Fried Rice and continue to deteriorate in my own self-pity.

(sorry, still venting -and now I'm venting on my venting, UGH)
I will state it once again,

"IT IS Better To RENDER, Than SURRENDER..."

Thank you Chris - Another Daz3D Citizen was kind enough to put my rant in the Product Suggestions area

    - where if I wasn't so retarted - I would have took a break from my hyperventilating, read the Forums' descriptions

and placed it in "The Commons" instead of whatever forum I initially wound up placing it in.

This is/was supposed to be me just vetting muh disappointment in the Korean BBQ  (SKU: 81865)

did not include a simple bowl of rice along with the other fabulous delicacies they did include.

I mean, I own several of Fugazi1968 AND Ironman products. And at the time I initially decided to vent about it,

i was also having issues with the sales and the freebies - for example - build your own bundle, check to hide products you own. Oh, my Just one? (attached)

has daz been taking advantage of my OCD shopping sprees during this pandemic? Let's see, Let's get some freebies...
Oh, nice - all those TerraDome (1) add -ons. Now, go and buy the TD1 - GONE - yet they're giving away the addons for the same vendor. (attached)
But at least I got some more knives, plants and items for Cookie. But again, that was just bad timing and my spontenous "Falling Down" moment.
If my computer hasn't been crashing coz the fans sound like they are failing, I'd vent by Rendering. But has anyone bought a decent computer in the past year?
What? Dell's buy-back program doesn't allow you to apply X-amount up front? I'm glad they offer me a 12-months 0% financing BUT they don't ship till Mid-July?!?

And for what it's worth, I'm like a 1000th generation Native American (I did my own carbon-dated test on myself, lol)

perhaps I've got that Indiginous Longing for Asian Foods that Grandpa "Ameruca" disliked and

crossed the Bering Straits in order to make the foods he wanted, such as Tacos, Tamales, Enchiladas

and occasionally slaughter a cow and make his other favorites - Filet Mignon, Porterhouse & Prime Rib on holidays...

One thing I know for sure - As I traveled the Eight Seas, nearly EVERY Continent has AND grows Rice and/or serves it with their Asian Cuisine.

When I wasn't Old AND Disabled, my wife actually owned the MOST POPULAR Asian Restaurant in Florida doing deliveries while she was 9 months pregnant!

I 'd help her out best I could, when I wasn't doing two separate stints at two separate times on two very different US NAVY Ships

But here I go venting (and NOT rendering) as both the real world and my virtual world go round without me; but again, I digress.

Believe me, YOU have more talent than I could ever (re)gain at this stage of my life. You can Imagine what I think should be included in Asian Food scenes

as well as imagine what I think daz3d is lacking - Rice - from seed to feed. Sure, Hum3d, Renderhub, Renderosity, Sharecg, and Turbosquid offer nicey and pricey alternatives.
But - ByGolly - I love daz3d and the community here - at my little Daz3d world. AmI the only one noticing the lack attention to detail and customer care dimminish?

But I'm not the kind to complain without making a suggestion - hence, Rice From Seed to Feed, and all points inbetween!

This product contains what I believe are paddy fields: https://www.daz3d.com/ninja-village

Same with my mother-in-law. She didn't own a restaurant, but she was a rice farmer - a passionate one. She loved to work on the field, together with her friends, and she went to her beloved rice fields even when my father-in-law had enough money to hire a lot of field hands. And I never ate better rice than the one she grew. Sigh...

Stripping off the fish from sushi props or flipping them upside down can give you a little block of rice. (Some of these are pre-Iray, so you may need to create your own rice shader... maybe from wax as a starter?)

They don't necessarily translate into bowls of rice, but they might help at a distance.

One might also take a photograph of a pile of cooked rice and use a planar surface for distant shots.

The rice situation here is pretty dire. I usually slap a rice texture on mashed potatoes or something if I want a little rice pile. That said, there are some resources. Most of this comes from https://www.daz3d.com/rairaiken-shinjuku-1954 and https://www.daz3d.com/yamachan-ramen-1961-food-truck. https://www.daz3d.com/old-japanese-soba-diner also has rice, I think. You may need to mess with the textures. The rice containers came from Harwood House.

Y'all cheered me up and made my day much better! Wow, I forgot about sushi rice, flipped and stripped of seaweed wrapper (or opacity to 0)

and I had never even seen that "Ninja Village" by Sugatak. If you hadn't notice in my lame gallery, I do 'reuse' the 'scapes' with my own cut out/pasted in scenes.

And yes, I do go to many free3d-type sites. But I'm at a point that it just seems like I'm playing with digital paperdolls. Most of what I used to know of Digital Art is neanderthal compared to what is required to know what each command is in Daz3d, yet alone, make something nice of it. I'm feel I have closure because of you wonderful people here.

Faeryl Womyn - you owe me and McGuyver a tshirt.

I did this with a half-sphere one time.

  • Thank you JJ. I will do that. I'm still in the Seascape, Landscape sized stuff, but will tweek a bowl of cereal or something with my white rice or fried rice.

  • Domo Arigato, Ascania!

Those are wonderful sources of "attention2detail" I am glad someone was able not only create but make available freely!
