Converter for 8.0 textures to 8.1?

Hello all, just looking into 8.1 for the first time, and I'm wondering if anyone has created a script to convert textures intended for an 8.0 character to an 8.1 character?

You don't need to convert, since 8.1 also has the 8.0 UV. You could use Map Transfer to convert 8.0 textures to the 8.1 UV, but I don't think that would actually provide any benefit.

Depending what you need, you may find some insights in this thread:

That's the issue I am seeing: the Head and Body surfaces on 8.1 vs the Torso on 8.0. Also, it looks like the UVs on the Iris and Pupil surfaces are different, as well. The others look ok from a quick glance.

I will try out the walkthrough you linked, thank you.

I don't think I understand. The surfaces are different between 8.0 and 8.1, so you absolutely need to convert. Am I missing something?

The surfaces aren't different between 8.0 and 8.1; they're different between the 8.0 UV and the 8.1 UV, and the 8.1 figure can use either. If you add an 8.0 character material to 8.1, it will automatically switch to the 8.0 UV, and you won't be able to tell the difference.

Hmmm. So, the issue (maybe, if I understand what you are saying) is that I am not using any one character's textures. I have created a custom blend of materials from multiple characters and then hand-tuned the surface settings. So the only way I know to move those from an existing 8.0 character to a new 8.1 character is to copy the surface and paste, which messes things up. Copying torso and pasting to Body is fine, but there's no work-around for Head and Iris (i think... that is my question, I suppose, is there a work-around).

Are you mixing 8.0 and 8.1 characters?

No.  Ohhhh... maybe I DO understand what you are saying. Load any 8.0 character materials onto the new 8.1 character to set the UV set, then copy the customized surfaces to the new character. You have to hand-copy Torso to Body and Head and re-set the UV set, but then everything is happy?  I think?

It's actually even simpler than that. There's a parameter in Surfaces called "UV Set". That can be changed per-surface, but you can also just select the "surfaces" group and apply the base UV to all surfaces simultaneously.  You'll probably still need to copy the 8.0 torso surface to both head and body surfaces on the 8.1.

    I get it now. Thanks!

If you have created "Material Preset" for your own mixture on G8, you can load it on G8.1 and it comes looking just the same, it will automatically use the G8 UV.

    Perfect! Thank you!
