Content Supported Filetypes
One ares of D|S I've mostly ignored for years is content management. Seems like whenever I start to look into cleaning stuff up and making it more usable it turns into an endless rabbit hole. And one area I've pretty much ignored is the ability of the D|S Content Library and/or Smart Content to natively handle (ie, generate thumbnails and allow you to drag 'n drop into the scene) stuff like images (.jpeg, .png, etc.), HDRI's, OBJ and other mesh files, and so on.
I guess I've always assumed that when I want to use any of those types of resources I need to browse to the appropriate location of my drive and find them. But it would sure be nice if I could just jump to the Smart Content tab, see a bunch of thumbnails for, say, all my HDRI images, and just drag them to the appropriate Environment variable. Or do the same for texture images. Or do the same for object meshes.
And it sure seems like D|S should natively handle image files and give you thumbnails, but when I navigate inside Content Library to a folder with images it shows me nothing.
And BTW, has anyone found a way to speed up the response in Content Library so that it doesn't take forever to show thumbnails? Seems like often I select a folder, it shows nothing, then a long while later suddenly it updates?

There is an Other option in the Content Directory Manager. Put your HDRIs in their own library and add it under Other. You can do the same with object files but you will need to add pngs for them.
