ISO: Sci-Fi Shop Interiors

MJ007MJ007 Posts: 1,704

Hello Good People,

I am in search of Sci-Fi shop interiors.  Doesnt matter what the shop sells as i could probably refit it with the goods i want... it just needs to have the look of a sci-fi shop.
Any suggestions?  Ive searched all over for adequate interiors and havent came up with much of anything, and i really prefer NOT to kitbash my own.

Preferably something that could be used in pre-DS4 versions, but i could possibly convert it with DS tools to be used anyway in my ver.

Do you happen to have any pictures of what you are looking for?

I dont.  Wish I did, but even when i Google the phrase, I dont really see interiors for what Im looking for... just exteriors.

I kitbashed one using the https://www.daz3d.com/gadget-store ; (it was free).

And adding some Consoles from a stonemason spaceship. It sort of worked for my comic. There is a definite lack of good interiors for this purpose.

I also put a few signs throughout the exterior. These are smaller panels so it is somewhat hard to make out that this is a knockoff apple product store.

Awesome!  From the looks of it, i might not have any choice but to do a kitbash myself with so little resources available.  But this product is a better example of what im looking for than i found.  I searched the Daz store for "shop", "market", etc and this product didnt show up in any of my searches.

It was a freebie, it is well lit, and renders nicely in color.

I invest heavily in signs like the ones that were recently released with the cyberpunk set. https://www.daz3d.com/cyberpunk-neon-signs I then put some signs around and hope the suggestion is enough!

They are no longer available but check your prduct library for the old Dystopian products from Moebius. IIRC there were a couple of his Dystopian products that you might be able to kit bash.

If you know what the shop is supposed to sell, then you could start out with a contemporary store selling similar things. So for a store selling clothes, you'd take a contemporary clothes store. For a store selling hoverbikes, you'd take car or bike dealer, etc.
Next, change the shaders for the walls and floor to something more futuristic. It depends a bit on the style of sci-fi you go for, but think grungy concrete, metal or shiny plastic. Maybe a simple black to which you later add neon signs.
Now replace cash registers with some futuristic console.
Also remove at least one large display, and replace it with some kind of console. Add a hologram of something being sold above the console (you might want to render that seperately so you can add it in later with all kinds of photoshop effects. Alternatively, render the object with a wireframe shader)
Replace adverisement posters with more futuristic artsy equivalents or display screens.

The key is using a contemporary store though. You will want to make it clear to the viewer what kind of place it is, and using a contemporary equivalent will accomplish that. Stores are recognizable in their setup, a store at a gas station does look different from a supermarket, a hardware store is different from that again. Different types of stores are designed the way they are for a reason. Even if things will definitely be different in the far future, it matters more that people who live now can recognize them.

Ofcourse, watching some sci-fi movies (Blade Runner, The Fifth Element, etc) or playing sci-fi games (Cyberpunk 2077, Mass Effect 2, Star Wars: The Old Republic, Star Citizen if you have access) may help as well. Just to get an idea of how those things are designed there. But you'll quickly notice, that the designers in those movies and games looked at the contemporary equivalents of their stores as well. Simply because the layouts make sense, and because it conveys the type of store
