Big changes with Substance, my initial findings here

Just thought I'd give a heads-up to anyone using Substance programs that Adobe finally absorbed them today. Here's what I've found so far (partially copied from my Facebook page)

- Adobe just engulfed it and turned it into their own subscription plan. Allegorithmic's site appears to be gone.

- New version has a bridge to Photoshop and some new features, not sure if anything's that big though.

- Part of the more expensive subscription plan includes "Stager", but it isn't anything that most of us here would need. It's mainly for making mock-ups or product imagery.

- You can sign up for a beta of a new 3D modeler. It looks a bit like Sculptris with the ability to use it in VR. Doubt it will be any competition for Zbrush.

- If you install the new version, it will not overwrite your old one; it wants to go into a new directory. You'll need to move any presets and shelves you have into the new Adobe-labeled folders designated in the Settings menu.

- "Sampler" is Substance Alchemist. The same three programs that were in the Substance subscription are in Adobe's basic 3D subscription plan for $19/month.

- So far, the Adobe Substance Painter does seem to run a little better (at least here) and the shelf is easier to navigate.

They broke Substance Launcher with the new version. You can't launch the Substance Painter in the launcher or send materials to painter no

Ack, that figures. I guess it isn't a huge problem since 'sending the materials to painter' also downloaded an extra copy of the SBSAR that you needed to delete later anyway. I wish they'd add an option to delete materials that you don't need from within Painter though.

There's an update on the Steam pages for SP and SD confirming that perpetual licences will continue to be available on the Steam platform.
