Why will daz content not work if a few folders deep?

Hi

I want to set my daz content up on an external hard drive. I have some on there now in individual folders such as sets and props, Creatures, Dinosaurs, etc and these work fine but I thought it would be better organised if I could put all these folders into a main folder called Daz content external.

I moved them into this folder and re linked them in daz studio and they all show up in the content but when I try to load them daz cannot find them. The paths should still be the same as before just one folder deeper so why will this not work, and is there a way to make it work?

Cheers

Phil

Did you also move the Data and Runtime\Textures folders? If not DS won't be able to find the support files - the file you see in the library is generally just a list of settings and what to apply them to.

Well I took the complete folder .

For instance I had one called SETS AND PROPS that had been installed to the external drive.

I created an new folder called DAZ CONTENT EXTERNAL and moved the entire folder , that was working into there so it includes everything that was in the folder including the data and runtime folders.

I go into the content setup and link studio to it and it sees everyting but will not load things says that parts are missing.

If I move it out of that folder it works ok again.

Is there another data and runtime folder I need to move?

DazStudio is creating Data files in the first content folder that is listed in the Content manager ...
Look through all of your folders for those data folders ...

Are they "all showing up in the content" in the Smart Content tab or the Content Library tab? Content Library shows all your content files as they exist right now on your computer. Smart Content shows a sorted and filtered database of links to your content files, wherever they were when the database entry for that content was created. If you move the files but don't update the content database, then Smart Content will point to where your content files were — relinking your new content folder in Content Management will not update the database.

DS has two special folders, Data and Runtime, which must be directly underneath the folder listed in Content Directory Manager in DS. Other folders can be arranged however you like, but those two folders cannot be moved deeper than that, otherwise parsing them becomes ambiguous.
