Cloth collision detection

Hi!

I do not get this, I have a male G2 character standing with right foot on a rock, he has a kind of tunic on him hanging down almost to his knees so it has to be ajusted otherwise the right side will go straight thorugh his thigh, and it is wrong, it hangs straight down, collision detection and smooting is on, but here is the weird part!!!!

If I go to parameters and grab any of the sliders and just move it a tiny bit the cloth updates correct and hang nice over his thigh as it should, looks perfect but as soon as I let go of the mouse button it goes back to complete crap again and hangs straight through his thigh.

this can be repeated over and over again, every time I let go of the mouse button it is back to wrong again.

I must be doing some very silly rockie mistake but I cannot figure out what it is.

Does any one know what I am doing wrong ?

Edit: I just tried to just grab a foot and move it around and when I do that the cloth follow it perfect but as soon as I let go of the mouse button it stays in that pose but the cloth go all wrong again, very weird, got the same prioblem when I switched to some other cloth also.
