Computer Crash Recovery

I know this is a common refrain and I have looked at many differnt threads and cound not match one up with my situation. If there is one out there that details a solution to my issue please refer me to that. Long story short, I have had a computer crash and had restall everything.  I have all of my content backed up to an external drive.  How do i merge that content into my new daz environment or get the new daz install to see that content so that it is usuable?  I tried pointing to the content within Daz and loading a scene but that led to a beavy of files that could not be located.  Any help would be appreciated.  I have a lot of time ivensted in those projects.

Did you point Daz studio to the folder that contains the /Data folder 9and probably a Runtime folder and folders like people and props too)? How did you install your content originally? If through Daz Studio then, unless you also have a back up of the Content Management System's database from before the crash, they won't be found unless you tell Daz Studio to reinstall them (at which it should see the existing files and not actually download anything, beyond their attributes, but that doesn't always work). What are the paths given in the error messages - sometimes the issue can be the way the directories were set up when the file was saved.

  • Thanks for the assistance,  I did not point the folders specifically just the directory folder.   Should I be butting that older content in a new folder?  It is a mix of manually download and DIM installed product?  The paths look like they lead diretyly to the missing product.

I'm not sure what you mean - screen shots of the errors, for a sample of scenes, of the content directory settings, and of where the content is on disc may help.

  • Thanks for your willingness to assist.  I have a mixture of DIM insatlled content and manually installed content.  The DIM stuff I undersand about that not showing up and having to redownload.  I was more vexed by the other content and to get that regeristering.  The erros seem to be just runtime and data link going back to the missing product.

OK, well that excludes one potential issue (which is good). So, if you stick the list of folders onto

    E:/Daz 3d/Studio/My Library/

    or

    E:/Daz 3d/My Daz 3d Library/

Do you find the files it is complaining about? If not, where are they (the full path starting with the drive letter)?

  • Thank you so much  I am on the road to recovery!
