Genesis 8.1 Skins/Textures on Genesis 3 Possible? New G8.1 Skin Resource in Store Today

I was excited to see Rarestone's new Genesis 8.1 Female Skin Merchant Resource appears to use PNG files for all the maps according to the first pic.

From what I've seen, pretty much every other vendor uses JPG files for their characters and unfortunately a level of compression that leaves some pretty ugly artifacts.  I've been wanting to get my hands on uncompressed image maps for skins for a while but haven't so far.  I've purchased a few other MR skins unfortunately IIRC one was JPG, and both IIRC didn't include normal maps.  I didn't check them out for a while, beyond 30 days or I would have returned them.

Trouble for me with this new set is I am still using Genesis 3 figures.  Can I convert the image maps to use with Genesis 3?

Nope, G8.1 uses different uvmapping than G3. The reason you can use G8 on G8.1 is that G8.1 has the G8 mapping as well.

Actually G8.1 when used in DS 4.15 reads the G8 UV map from G8 "UV Sets" folders -> It would not be difficult to make G8 use G8.1 UV's as their geometry is the same.

Problem with getting G3 to use G8.1 UV's is at least the integrated lashes, ie. different number of vertices, but if one is patient and systematic enough, I would think it would be possible to figure out the vertice numbers for the lashes and add them to the G8.1 UV in Notepad++

  • Well... I saved Victoria 8.1's stuff as "Shaders" in my own Content Library.

When I've accidentally double clicked without CTRL, they apply onto Genesis 3 Female without grumping at me... but the Neck/Head for 8.1 has no real equivalent for G3F (because the UV is different, as noted above), so that's an issue unless you figure out how to transfer and remap them. (Someone could write a script once they figure all that out, but that someone would not be me.)
