The Terracotta Army

Just wanted to say - https://www.daz3d.com/kuj-museum-of-qin-terracotta - what a brilliant idea for a scene! After all those PCFAD sales I'd vowed not to spend any more money for months - but this is really inspiring.
Thank you!

I'ts pretty cool, would be lovely to do something with that
the two real life textures (one for each) are nice but would like more if I used them, don't want to just render statues
I would like to learn a little more about this product:
- The environment, OK
- The outfits. Are those regular outfits with terracotta shaders or are those rather limited?
- The textures. Those are for figure and outfit, right?
Do the shaders include the whole figure or just head and arms like those parts not covered by the outfits or can the shaders be applied to all of the figures textures?
Thanks!
This bundle looks fantastic and really very inspiring. The museum is stunning; it went to my cart in an instant. Only one thing irritates me: Why are the Terracotta Warrior and the General 'Caucasian', and not Chinese? And do the outfits or the morphs include hair?
This couldn't go into my cart fast enough. If I can never get there to see the real things in this lifetime, at least now I can play with them in Daz.
I noticed that as well, but I suspect it's due to working with the freely available G8M. I would hope that the "outfit" and shaders would work just as well if you dialed in at least the head of your favorite male Asian character (surely Mr. Woo would be good for the general) and hopefully the shaders work on most hair products (though maybe only conventional trans mapped hair).
I was fortunate enough to get to see the terracotta warrior collection that went on tour in the US a couple years ago. Amazing exhibit.
Got it for the Qin outfits and weapons. The museum environment is great on it's own, though.
Now I need Genesis 8 lookalikes for Jet Li, Michelle Yeoh and Brendan Fraser.
Materials for the sculptural versions are for the entire body. You can use it for making naked terracotta/clay/wood/metal people.
The material expansion for the outfits includes regular cloth materials. But the base products only have terracotta textures for everything.
The human/cloth versions only loads as hierarchical presets for the entire G 8.1 M figure.
The hair, the headdress and the eyebrows/facial hair are one piece headwear, unfortunately. They also only have a single material zone. The "human" hair looks more like a plastic action figure hair so for realistic Qin Chinese renders you'll have to either substitute different hair or modify the Terracotta Army hair pieces with geometry editor and hair shaders.
Although the clothing sets can be separated into several pieces for texturing, the entire outfit uses one big texture map so there is no detailed re-texturing of clothing - just large chunks. (for example, the shoulder plate is all one color - not a main inside with an outside trim). This outfit has a lot of potential if more textures are added, one makes their own texture map, or existing props are retextured ... but any of those are a lot of work. But still a lot of potential.
Looks really great, but I have no use for it.
And it seems there's only face shape supplied, while the original clay figures have several different face options afaik. I guess though one can achieve that by using some head morphs. Researchers seem to agree on those figures having been brightly coloured, which many variations between the figures. I think (!) there were also some more different weapons for these figurines, with me knowing that at least a crossbow being included in the ranks. And a battle chariots...
Lots of options for further addons
So a really nice product it seems...
Thank you, pds and PixelSploiting! And you were really lucky, pds, to see the exhibition. Maybe one day I'll see this wonder of the world, too...
As far as I know, each of the original clay figures has an individual face. But if we want to have the model in this century, we will have to do without it... ;-)
Looks like a great addon and it's nice to see the praise some are giving it. Unfortunately I just can't ever see a use for it, but I do hope it does well. It's nice to see PAs tackle more niche themes.
Really interesting... this would be Imperial China in its earliest stage, contemporaneous with the Roman Repubic during the Punic Wars.
It would be neat to see more "historical" armor, in many many contexts (China, and also everywhere, LOL)... and also more stuff from the video game concepts (many examples from the various Three Kingdoms games, which this armor could perhaps fit within... but the Three Kingdoms came much later, after the Han dynasty). I would imagine that Three Kingdom period stuff would do better than the Terracota/Qin period stuff if only because of the popularity of the video games (nevermind the cultural importance of the old Chinese historical novel), so hopefully there are more historical things in the future.
I'd want something fancier for the generals/commanders, but this is in line with Jerry Jang's other "footsoldier" armors from other contexts.
I held off on doing a film because I needed to have a scene set with the Terracotta warriors in this exact location and didn't have anything that would work and though I can model buildings and rooms, I can't do people and clothes. But now I can actually go back and do the film!! This set is awesome.
When I lived in China, I made a trip to Xi'An to see the real thing (among other cool stuff in Xi'An) - This set looks great (and as each terracotta warrior has a unique face in the real version, it's great that we can morph Genesis 8.1 to have unique warriors).
The set is gorgeous but it went up $8 after 1 day in the store. Time to dump my cart.
@crescent I believe it was a Daz original, so when the pc+ sale ended yesterday, PC+ members lost the extra daily percentage off we were getting all during the sale.
Besides losing the extra PC discount on DOs it also lost the benefit of an extra discount for 2 or more debut / still new releases. I'm glad I got the bundle yesterday. However, I am having a problem with applying the supplied cameras in KuJ Museum of Qin Terracotta. When I apply any one of them all the other cameras in the scene (including the default camera) are deleted.
& (after a first quick play) I'm struggling to use the poses on G8 men. They work on Michael 8.1 but not on Tamati 8.
Try holding the CTRL key when loading them. You should get the dialog box with various options for the cameras (add, replace, switch)
OOT also did textures for Jerry Jang's European/Medieval footsoldiers at Renderosity... so as appreciated as these textures are, I hope OOT also takes a look at the Qin/Terracota army footsoldiers here.
Well, I for one, am having loads of fun with this amazing set!

P.S. The lighting is a bit tricky. I used one of Orestes HDRIs and had to crank the Environment Intensity up from 1.00 to 4.50 - your results may vary depending on light setup, but the most I've ever had to up it was 2.0 so not sure if I am missing something somewhere, but the results speak for themselves.
