if i already have it block in the firewall, then why does it keep
giving me that mesage. Look, i looked in the mac Security preferences and it's
blocked. so why then do i get that message?
You need to unblock it, Daz Studio requires network/internet access to work.
Well my DAZ STudio works fine even if i Push DENY. But i guess i have to Unblock it? Why is that? what if i did't have internet?
I'll try unblocking it.
postgres is the Content Manager Database used by DAZ Studio, and if DAZ Studio cannot access it several things will not work properly. Smart Content will not work, database search will not work, and Genesis/Genesis 2 auto-fit-to when adding clothes to a figure won't work properly.
You should allow postgres to accept incoming connections from localhost (your own machine)
That security message is a bit misleading, all that's happening is two programs talking to each other — the database manager program needs network access internal to your computer to access the content database and send what it finds to the DAZ|Studio program.
And Auto-Fit works just fine without it, what will happen is some items will not auto Fit-To so needs to done either by right clicking on them in the viewport and setting in the pop-ups or selecting in Scene tab and setting from Parameters tab (General/Misc).
Not Auto-Fit, but auto "Fit to...". When you have a Genesis-figure selected and add a piece of clothing and the CMS is not there, you will have to do "Fit to..." to make it conform.
Ok decided to Allow access to postgress in the Macos Security settings firewall.....and yet i still get the message upon starting up DAZ Studio. What's going on?
Is postgres running? Did you allow DS to start it?
Is postgres running? Did you allow DS to start it?
yeah i always alow it. Everytime DS starts it pops out the message and i push Allow.
What ports do you allow?
In DS under Preferences, CMS Settings you see the Port number DS uses to connect to postgres, it is not using the standard postgres 5432 port number to avoid collisions if there are other postgres installations on the machine. 17237 it says on my OS X Machine which I guess is the default DS postgres port
in my DS CMS settings it says port 1024. should i change it? And to what?
What does postgres listen on? DS can have been tricked when it was blocked...
I don't know. I dont know too much about these internet computer things. How do i know what it listens on?
if you look in your DS log (Help->Troubleshooting->View Log File...) and look for the line "Creating Asset Manager..."
What does it say after that?
I'm still having the message even though in Macos SEcurity/Firewall preferences i allow incoming connections to both DAZ and Postgress.
regarding your question , after Creating asset manager... i have this

Which mean DS can connect, but id DIM wasn't allowed to connect when content was installed, metadata will not be in the Database.
Have you tried to reimport metadata (now when the connection works) (I just don't have time to read through the whole thread again to look)
