how do i hide certain material zones?

I want to hide certain parts of an object. For instance some of the crystals on the crystal dragon. they're all separated based on their location on the body.

in poser if i wanted to hide them i had materials that all had a sort of...blank map that would hide the whole thing. i.e i would click it, it would ask me what zone to apply it to, and then it would become invisible in the render)

how do i achieve this same effect in daz?

You use the Geometry Editor tool. Right-click will bring up an options menu, and two of the options are selecting vertices by face group and hiding selected geometry.

You can also just apply black to the Cutout Opacity (or plain Opacity, depending on shader) via the Surfaces pane.

Once you've set up your "invisible shader", save it to your library for later use.
