Has anyone used TestDisk before? - Adding file extensions.
I'm trying to look for lost .duf (Daz3D) files, but the extension is not included in the list. Does anyone know how to add it?
I've got no idea what I'm doing when it comes to coding/DOS, and trying to follow instructions is giving me a headache.

So. I've recovered stuff using TestDisk. But its all in .gz archives. Is there anyway to get useable .duf files from these?
Haven't used TestDisk, but have done file recoveries in the past.
The procedure can be hit and miss, depending on how the files were lost (delete or format) and how long ago they were lost.
The best results can be achieved if the recovery is done as soon as possible and the disk is used only for reading data. Whatever data is recovered, should be saved on another disk to check if the files that were recovered, are still intact or if they were remnants of older files that have been overwritten already.
I once recovered about 85% of 950GB's after accidental formating, but the overall data that was recovered was almost 2TB's. I think I used Acronis for that one.
Try to rename them by removing the .gz extension and replace it with .duf.
Many Daz Studio files are saved compressed, Studio uses GZIP compression for that. Those "lost files" then are recognized as .gz archives by TestDisk because of their file header.
Another way: extract the .gz files with 7zip. If the file could be extracted without errors, you got back the (uncompressed) .duf. Just rename it to .duf and it should load in Daz Studio.
