Correcting skins that have darker and more reddish parts?

Hello everyone

I have noticed that some skins have darker and more reddish parts, for instance below, the character on the left has uniform skin, whereas the character on the right has more reddish and darker parts (waist and legs). Under different lighting conditions, this is getting extremely visible and annoying.

Any suggestions in order to correct that? I would really appreciate your help and guidance.

Thanks!

Pietro

Do the characters have multiple SSS materials?

If not, you can try tweak the SSS settings in the Uber shader yourself.

Thanks for your quick response, margrave. No, they don't (left is PC Grace Yong and right is GDN Djenna).

Sorry - I am not sure what you mean by "tweak the SSS settings in the Uber shader yourself".  I don't want to steal more time from you. Could you just point me toward a tutorial or explanation?  Or is there a resource/utility in the store that would help me do that easily?  Thank you again!

  • Thank you for this great video tutorial! It is helpful to understand the basics of SSS.

Just one more question related to my problem: I have checked the SSS settings for the skin parts, and they appear to be the exact same ones. What would you suggest that I do? Tweak the SSS settings of the waist and legs, and see what happens?  Thanks again!

Your SSS settings should be uniform, otherwise you'll see the discrepency where texture maps end.

If it's still not working, you can just apply the materials from a different G8 character. Hold Ctrl while you load the skin from Smart Content and it'll give you the option to replace the settings but keep the texture maps.

  • Thank you - I will try that!
