Strand hair from Blender

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone has found a way to import strand hair from blender into Daz Studio.

I have seen a few mini-tutorial about brining Blender particle hair into Daz as mesh hair by using the screw modifier etc but I would really love to bring in actual strand hair into Daz (even if I have to go through some conversion process of converting to alembic curves or something).

I am sure I have searched the entire internet and cannot find any mention of importing (or converting) strand hair in Daz.

Thanks in advance for any advice :)

I am not certain you could do a direct transition. I looked at the Blender manual and this article about diffeomorphic and it seems like the strand hair in Blender is a particle based system not a mesh. So it seems you would have to export strand as a mesh then import into DAZ Studio and apply your morphs and dForce.

I fully get that Blender is using hair particles but you can still export out Alembic hair curves from Blender to Unreal Engine to use their strand based hair no worries at all.

I was just hoping that I could get the same outcome in Daz by importing hair strands into Daz instead of having to try recreate the hair in Daz's strand hair editor.

These are the formats which DAZ can import (see image). Have you tried exporting from Blender, the hair strands, in these formats to see what you get when you import into DAZ Studio?

It seems to me that every feature in DAZ is a custom variation, therefore it seems to always require custom programming by DAZ to make items work in DAZ. In my opinion, it does not seem like DAZ has the personnel resources to constantly keep up with the 3D software industry and since DAZ Studio is closed-source they can not obtain outside assistance and input from the DAZ community therefore it can take 6 years to rebuild DAZ Studio and launch the next iteration.

Again, in my opinion, they would be well served by creating some form of open-source if their licensing agreements with their software suppliers permit. For example, if the licensed software libraries are black-boxed so only calls to the libraries are revealed then they could reveal their code without violating the licensed library code. Since they only seemed to be interested in using DAZ Studio as a platfrom to sell content, plug-ins, and scripts, I am not certain what else would prevent them from revealing their code base.

they are very hignpoly and take about 12 hours to convert to a mesh you then extrude

(because it is polylines, PAs can use those polylines to make Dforce curves, we cannot)

I posted one in the hair converter thread.

The second best option after Open Sourcing the whole darned thing would be to just document the C++ SDK better, so you could one way or another get the functionality you wanted. With the number of people developing the coolest plugins out of sheer passion and enjoyment or just personal necessity, we all should be screaming for better documentation at the top of our lungs. The easier Daz makes it to make a plug-in, the more plugins there will be.

I totally agree. They could even buy-out best of breeder plug-ins made outside of DAZ and incorporate those feaures into DAZ Studio and thereby reduce the amount of development resources they need to improve DAZ Studio which a vehicle for selling content.

Seems like a win-win to me.

To IAmJasonWeise I hope you do find a solution to strand hair from Blender to dForce DAZ Hair. Please let all of us know if you succeed. Sharing Is Caring. wink

oh you want it to be Dforce hair, well if you were a Premier Artist you would just import the curves angry

    this a DAZ3D imposed limitation

So non-premier artists can only make mesh (non-dForce) hair? Is that true fro clothing also? Is dForce a third party proprietary library the DAZ 3D included with DAZ Studio?

you can make Dforce cloth hair but only static strandbased hair
