Categories

I'm trying to set up Categories to make my huge library of items easier to find. For the life of me, I cannot get them to save. I'm not entirely certain if I'm doing anything wrong (I create a folder in categories, I find an item I want to add, right click and choose "Categorize" and then choose the folder I want. After all that, I get nothing in the category folder. Using 4.15. Anyone have any ideas/tips/suggestions/insight?

Thanks a bunch.

Laurie

I do categories a lot. I usually right click on the item and create a product and then put it in the folder. That way it saves correctly for me.

I'll give that a try. Thanks so much!

Use mine a bit different, i think, and works for me.  Fair warning though, categorizing takes a ridiculous amount of time if you have lots of content.  But once you have and save, OMG.

What always works for me for years now is
a/ make a main subfolder, like G8F, then subfolder clothes, then subfolder elegant or fantasy or whatver fits your need (and more subfolders if you want)
b/ in Daz Studio pick the root of outfit you want (or char etc) and right click, first select "Create a Category from", then as subtool pick "selected folder & subfolders"
c/ pop-up appears, so nav to your decided folder, like "elegant", pick it, and it auto makes a new category sub-folder naming it exact as DazStudio did.  At this point you can rename the categories.
d/ only use categorize when I highlight or select one or more dufs (not folders) and pick right spot.
Seems to me you may be using cateorize not quite right yet?

Final important note.  There is the odd folder you need to rename under Daz Studio with _unique or whatevs, and then do steps above.  Or you get an empty folder.  Some kind of duplicate error that is less known.   Have posted this fix for one user maybe 9 months ago in tech forums.

I've ran into some items, that simply will not categorize for unknown reasons. It just makes a blank folder. Very frustrating.

I have been doing it exactly as you have explained and end up with empty folders. It adds the folders, but there is never anything IN the folders. It works only half the time if I do a single item. I did NOT know about about renaming a folder. How exactly do I do that? That might be the issue on why I'm getting empty folders.

I'm also aware that categorizing a library the size of mine will take a great amount of time...lol. I figured I'd take it in little bites ;). But this empty folder thing is maddening beyond words. I don't know if it would make a difference or not, but Daz Studio on my machine is not installed at the default location. I have have a very small C drive that's an SSD, so I have it installed on another drive as well as all the content.

Thanks for all the help thus far :)

Oh good, and not good for you.   Sorry, misunderstood your "Categorize"efforts  which is a separate tool as I wrote.

To rename any folder including Daz Studio folders, right click and pick rename (2nd option). All you need to do is add something that works for you.  Like _u or _Unique for whatves to end of the name.  Then pick that renamed folder and follow step B.

If it still doesn't work, try one other wierd name.  If still not, then I think you may to post screenshots to show your exact steps, or contact support.

Still not working, but thank you for all your help :). I'm going to hang it up now...lol. I'll try again some other time. For now, it's just too frustrating. :)

Sorry to hear not working :(

If you ever feel like it, post your screenies, and we'll see if there is something visbily off.  In computer world just takes one misstep as you know and it probably won't work.

Should add: all my stuff is installed via DIM.  Not sure what you use.
