Deacreased by a LOT for two reasons. First I already have a bulging library of purchased and home made content. Second, I can't use the vast majority of the stuff being offered right now except for maybe the odd pose set. I don't do fantasy , sci fi or NVIATWAS type scenes in my graphic novels.
It's decreased as I have a lot now so I only buy something if I need it for a project and don't already have something similar. This happened, I noticed, when the pro bundles stopped and we were left with specific bundle structures. I started saying well, I'll never use anything here as I don't do these types of projects, why buy this and it kept spiraling from there as I got more and more questionable with every purchase. Before when you get three characters, a pose set or two, and a few kitbashable hair and outfits it was a more you never know, this might be useful someday to nope, won't use anything here, why spend the money.
Decreased a lot.... many things that are new products are not that interesting to me.
The PC for a day sales are great. But the PC bundales are not much use to me as I have many of the older PC items.
Economically it is a difficult time for many people. And I guess it can be hard for the vendors, so sometimes I buy something simply to be a help to them.... like when someone is going around looking to cut the grass, I will agree simply to be a help to them.
What I would like to see more of are detailed sets, and detailed SF sets such as Petipas makes. I have enough human figures for a lifetime.
Decreased a lot. Still, I wish it would have been decreased even more, but the recent sales somehow counteracted my intention to spend only minimal sums here.
Increased prices, lowered quality, missing QA, kitbashed bundles, DAZ 4.15 and Genesis 8.1 (aside from Torment and White Princess, all the other bundles are not to my liking), NFT-involvement, Season Pass, and more are the reason why I prefer to spend my money elsewhere nowadays.
+1
I've a sufficient content library that I don't really *need* very much, apart from tripping over a "better same" item or whatnot, for variety.
Overall, my purchasing has decreased, but it's become a lot more uneven. I'll go several days where nothing new is interesting, and then hit a day where I want all of the new stuff.
I will usually grab new stuff by favored artists. But I already have too manay characters, so, even with favored PA's characers, unless one looks like the mental image I have of a character that I need for an illustration, or comes with some value added extra, like a hair or outfit (or a male skin without whiskers, suitable for child characters), I'm slower to put it in my cart.
I've been spending much, much less. The main reason is the ever-broken, poorly worded sales, but weak quality control is also a concern. I'm always worried that new products and updates will break what already works, so I'd rather play it safe and not buy the new things. Also, 4.15 is crash prone and this sucked a huge amount of fun out of the hobby. If Daz made earlier versions of DS available, my spending would increase. Lastly, the whole NFT fiasco did not endear me to the company and makes me feel creepy everytime I spend money here. I used to really enjoy shopping @Daz, but now it feels like I'm walking across a minefield eveytime I visit. What will blow up next?
Way, way down. Not that I've ever been a big spender, especially on pro/theme bundles. Lots of reasons, most of which others also mentioned:
Iffy QA, customer service issues, increased prices, likelihood that my computer can't deal with DS4.15 &/or 8.1...
Lack of money is another factor, but not the biggest one. I should be able to reup my lapsed PC+ membership within the next few weeks but starting to consider holding off until the fall sales and see how I feel then.
Seeing as my main purchases are tools and plugins, they are completely dependent on the frequency of when they're released...
Still waiting for Ultimate Natural Bend Morphs for V8.1 from K.H.Image studio!
It's decreased. A LOT.
It's not because of anything that Daz3D have done. I've been feeding one of my obsessions. Plus, I lost one of my favourite custom Daz characters in a data transfer, and my computer is suffering from a lot of random restarts. So, that's killed a lot of my creativity and enthusiasm. I now have something like 125+ items in my wishlist, which hasn't happened before. But, if any product(s) have/has a significant discount, I will try to find the moolah to buy it.
Down, probably. There are annual peaks and troughs to my spending: I spend more when there are big sales on and I can get lots of content for cheap (even old stuff, for backgrounds or situation where high levels of detail don't matter so much), and then I can go days or weeks spending nothing when we're back to bad deals. On a longer time scale, it also used to be that I'd start getting interested around the 70% off mark, Fast Grab territory. Now I'll frequently shrug those numbers off and hold out for 75-80% off or more, since I know lots of things will hit that point eventually.
The lack of new content that I really like isn't helping, particularly for the guys. Sloppy outfits with minimal modelling and weight mapping that rely on dForce entirely, outfits where I can't even hide parts of them because the polys are not only tied to the wrong surface but exist in some dimension where I can't select them with the geometry editor for reassignment, things that have solid elements that warp wildly the second you pose a figure, "unisex" hair that has a more femme style I can use but unfortunately a hairline to match...
I like fantasy and sci-fi but honestly I'm getting burned out. So much content is getting pushed out so quickly that it can overload a person. When my brain is capable of processing less, I buy less.
...a lot of good comments here. a number which I totally agree with.
My purchasing here has always been "thin" due to the fact I worked in a low paying job while living in a high rent city. I primarily became interested in this for illustrating stories as advancing arthritis made it increasingly difficult to work in the traditional art media. Hence my purchasing primarily revolved around what I would actually use based on the genres I work with. (Cyber, Sci-Fi, present day, and 20th century settings)
Like Namffuak I am more into more "everyday" items, like clothing, vehicles, aircraft, sets, etc. much of which also goes for my "cyber future" illustrations. I find that a fair portion of "cyberpunk" themed items (particularly clothing) here would be the last things my characters would wear or use when sneaking around the backstreets of a sprawl or infiltrating a high security facility (I'm involved with an RPG titled Shadowrun which is a dark and gritty setting where "flashy" makes you an excellent mark or target for the oppos). I'm also disappointed in the lack of good looking "chrome" (cyber limbs, data/chip jacks and other cyber implants).
Speaking of Genesis, a major part of my decline in purchases is because I just got weary of havng to completely retool every two years for another Genesis iteration. Hence I pulled the cord to get off the bus with Genesis 3. After pushing the boundaries creating viable teen and child characters from V4 and later S4, i have shunned buying new characters (unless they contributed something unique to what I call my "gene pool") and moved to creating my own custom ones using various merchant resource content and a lot of "mixing". The more such content I purchased, the less overall content I purchased save for clothing, hair, props, and sets (my modelling skills are not much to write home about). I do have a few G8 characters, but only the ones I find "unique", not the normal stable of Vicky, Mike, Josie, Aiko, etc (I only have the V8 base figure because she was offered for free in a purple banner as a loyalty bonus).
As to the big sellers here which includes high/medieval fantasy, horror, and "sexy", not much interested in those which also keeps my spending down. One exception to the fantasy genre is the fae which actually do figure into my stories (also was involved with White Wolf's Changeling RPG which was set in a more contemporary period)
About the only time I go on a "shopping spree" these days is during the two PC sales (though disappointed in the last one as so much was tied to buying bundles to unlock extra discounts and special offers). I also am dismayed at even having to buy a new debut release to unlock extra discounts as often the price for one is more than the additional savings on one or two items unless you load your cart. . I think the most I ever spent was 100$ which was for a gift card before last fall's PC sale.
@ leemoon: & mr Clam: I am still using the 4.12.0.47 beta and it's been as stable as a rock for me.
I'm an old-timer here. I used to buy a steady stream of items from DAZ, but my purchases have, for the last several years, decreased to a drip. I still have a long wishlist but whenever something on the list comes on sale again I look at it and think "nope, not yet" and move on with my life.
Dramatically decreased, but I have since changed my creative process. Whereas before I would imagine all the art I could create with the new daily items in the store, I now start the art first, and if I need something I will buy it then, or wishlist it. I own so many items now and have noticed the turnstyle trends of genres, that I realise I still have all the items from the last time pirates, cowboys, Egyptians and cyberpunk etc. came around, and still I haven't found uses for many of them. Marvelous Designer has been a god send to me and with all the shaders I have, I rarely buy clothes now unless they are on sale. I'd say my spending has decreased by a least 80% this year.
I think only slightly fewer. The big difference is that now I only buy on deep discount if I can - minimum 60% off but usually more.
+++++++1
It's definitely decreased to the point that there could be weeks where I don't buy anything. It's not that I'm not interested in what's being offered it's how it's being offered to me. These stupid "buy this to get that" and overly complicated sales that have conditions that have conditions that have conditions are absolutely idiotic. It's also the amount of errors in the store and the fact that one of the busiest threads here is one that's dedicated to how bad and frequent the store errors are is insane to me. I've never encountered a marketplace that has so many problems just selling something, so my interest and faith in the store has plummeted and that has resulted in simply not taking chances with my money here.
Comparing the last half of 2020 with the first half of 2021, my average monthly Daz expenditure has decreased by almost 22%, and the dollar amount is roughly equal to the increase in my monthly expenditures at Renderosity and Kitbash3D.
Noticable decrease. Very few of the new releases tempt me; instead, I find myself going back and picking up old outfits for G2 and G3, which seem to have better detailing even if they lack the dForce bells and whistles.
when i look at my promo folder in explorer all i see is chrome circles. haate it haaaate webp absolutely positively haate it
I have stopped spending here since October last year. The GCs they provided a few months back still have some credits left in them. Even my PC+ sub is ending next month which I do not plan on renewing. Primarily due to these three reasons:
1) Studio's increasing demand on hardware without offeriing any significant value addition with every version increment just to accomodate newer versions of Iray.
2) Lack of support from CS towards anything but the latest version of DS. When I asked for measure metrics and GoZ plugins for DS 4.14 they are yet to respond even after 2 weeks. Previously, when I had asked for version 4.11 of DS they provided me someone's compressed installation folder with all their customizations and bloat instead of the original signed installer. Its hard to imagine a company not retaining just 2-3 prior versions of their products in their archives.
3) Introduction of G8.1 which basically killed G3 support from PAs. Atleast till G8, PAs were still including support for G3, but I haven't seen much G3 support here since G8.1 was launched. Luckily for me, other stores are still supporting G3 characters.
Sure, they are free to determine the direction of their products, so am I with my expenses.
It's decreased overall, but we are also between big sales. My plan is to continue to spend less as my library grows. I will still buy during the big sales, but I expect to spend less this year than last, for various reasons. It doesn't help that tech support is practically nonexistent and many sales are a mess of errors.
While there is still new and innovative stuff coming out (esp. on the plug-in side of things), there are a lot of -- for example -- similar looking characters and sets, etc. These days, I am also noticing an increased lack of detailed craftsmanship in many products, while some others are pretty respectable. Said differently, a lot of stuff just doesn't meet my standards for pausible realism or usefulness any longer (standards that have admittedly become more demanding as one sees higher quality assets available to digital artists... think Dekogon Studios for example), so I have been buying far less than before. Maybe that is the problem ....my standards have gone up. Some stores, like Flipnormals, require aspiring PAs to submit a resume first to see what the quality of their work is like. I'm not sure I support that, but it speaks to the fact that quality is an issue. Anyway, great products will always get my support.
For example, Ultrascenery and the like have done much to improve Studio and what can be done with it. They help me leverage my Studio investment in hardware and assets, empower me to solve artistic problems and do more of what I want to do creatively. USC gets my buckeros, but in order to get my continued support, will have to soon release a version that allows the user more control over parameter adjustments for creative contol, instead of tying their monetization of this product on endless sets (with one off trees or rocks, for example), instead of the software allowing people to make adjustments to get more variety of trees, rocks, landscapes, scenes, etc. Perhaps the PA is just not able to go to the next level of programming necessary to accomplish this, or there aren't enough hands available to make it happen. Or maybe it is already in the works. I have no idea.
The animal section is also a standout in terms of releasing great stuff. Can't complain there.
How can you tell?
ooops you caused a logic error in thread with too many "+" operators
...yeah was disappointed by the almost instant abandonment of G3 when G8.1 came out.
As I mentioned I pretty much stopped at G3 because of having to purchase all the resource content I needed for character development all over again (along no more updates to one of my most useful tools, Generation-X). THe improvement between 3 and 8 were fairly minor compared to lo previous Genesis updates (Genesis 2 went back to separate genders due to chest morph issues while Genesis 3 adopted a more common weight mapping system along with better joint bends).
Also at the time I just became weary of what was the two year interval between Genesis generations. .Felt I'd get G8 finally where I needed it, then suddenly there whold be G9.
I agree 8.1 pretty much was the final nail. .
...hmm I'm using Chrome and I don't get that. Have you checked your browser settings?
Go to Settings, open "Site Settings" .and under Default Behaviour you'll see two options "Sites can Show Images and "Don't Allow Sites to Show Images" Make sure the first one is selected.
My spending has decreased. Dramatically.
I did spend a bit during that last sale - the pre-PC+ anniversary one.
But that sale was the main time I've spent over the last.....8-12 months?
I'm not sure if I'm losing interest in art, or I'm losing interest in the daz store.
