Daz Studio and Hexagon = Awesome 3D Title Cards

Hey gang! I haven't been around much since, you know... ...2020 happened. I might be getting back into Daz in awhile because of a couple of projects I'm working on. I work as an actor and musician and liked making clothes and Daz stuff as a hobby. Because, you know... 2020, all my performing work evaporated over night and this has meant I had to suddenly find not only knew avenues for employment and creativity. I took my first gig as a voice actor, and I actually started using Daz Studio for things other than rough, untextured renders of simple primitives bashed into a background and a naked and bald Genesis 1 figures which I used as reference images for 2D illustrations.

I have now found one of my favourite things to use Daz Studio for and that's making title graphics! I make the 3D text in Hexagon and send it to Daz Studio to render. It makes an otherwise boring production task so much more fun. In the 80s when I went to college for Film and TV Production we were still taught the same 3D text techniques they've used since the black and white days of film. Either paint the title graphics so they look 3D, or if you had the budget you'd build your own 3D title cards. They still sell sets of 3D fonts because some film makers still do it "analogue". I hated it. Hated it. It was so tedious because you'd set it up, do some test shots, change, do some test shots, change... but it was really the only way to get the look of 3D letters for a title graphic that looked like they actually occupied physical space and wern't just 2D representations of a 3D concept.

Holy crap Daz! DAZ! Every gripe I've ever had about you... well, I probably still have BUT wow am I impressed with how awesome Iray does when it comes to recreating that classic 3D font title card look. I love it so much! I am so glad I put in the time to learn Daz just to be able to create 3D text renders that actually look like they fill physical space.

The only problem I have is, you know... Hexagon. I love the program! I've always said if you actually built upon Hexagon's interface and added modern features, wow, you'd set the world of 3D on fire because for as ancient a program Hexagon is it's UI is brilliant! But.... you know.... Hexagon. There are fonts I'd love to use, but Hexagon just barfs on them, so then I have to settle for my second font choice, or third, or forth, or whenever Hexagon stops barfing on my fonts. I understand you may not have updating Hexagon as a priority right now and that's perfectly reasonable but if you could see to putting the ability to create text as objects into Studio itself that would be awesome. Even so, with Hexagon crashing on some fonts it's still such an awesome easy thing to create that classic 3D font look with so much ease.

Oh! And also, if there's a clever plug-in programmer out there looking for an idea for a plug-in someone might buy. I might buy your plug-in if it let's me create 3D fonts inside Daz Studio without the need to torture poor Hexagon (they try SO hard, bless them).

Great work on the example there.  I always find it is better to create your own resources rather than use supplied templates as long as you have time to do so.

Have you considered creating the text in Blender (which would let you use any font) and then exporting it as a .obj file to bring into Daz Studio?  It is likely not as easy as in Hexagon, but once you have the basic steps then it would give you more control over your creativity.

There is a video here that might help:

There was something once I'm sure.

https://www.daz3d.com/type-of-graphika-set--find-your-words-in-daz-studio There are more if you search for "letters" in the store. Edit: @ghastlycomic After rereading your post again, I don't think this is what you are looking for.

That's pretty cool. It's pretty much like the foam or plastic 3D fonts you can buy for making those in real life.

...I've also done it with Carrara and Daz using a True Type font

That almost has a retro 90s render look to it.
