My preference is Blender. I had it first since it was free. Some people have said it is hard to learn, but I just took that as a given when I started and plowed ahead, so now it is second nature to me.

I got hexagon when it was either free or very cheap, don't remember which. Opened it a couple times, but it seemed like a foreign country to me after using blender. Some have said it crashes frequently, as well, which kind of scares me away. I don't think Blender has crashed on me, ever.

Same here. I got Blender first because it was free and now I got used to it. But it was a struggle at the beginning. No idea what Hexagon is like. I still have it on my wishlist : )

Blender can do a lot more, and is more stable. Hexagon is easier for most people to use. I use 3d Coat and Zbrush to supplement for painting and projection, but Blender has always been my main 3d suite and probably will remain so.

Blender's interface has gotten a lot better since the first version of it I used, but for best practice you're still going to need to learn some keyboard shortcuts and how to manipulate the viewport with the mouse. The program is free and easy to install and uninstall from a zip file. My advice is, install it, do some tutorials (BlenderCookie and YouTube), and see if you're able to work with it.

Thanks for the replies I got Hexagon when it was free, modelling in it is ok but to be fair everything looks stiff but that could just be me, and yes it does crash a lot
will take a look at some blender tuts and go from there, could be I end up using both or one or the other x
