What makes Some Characters Load Slower than Others?

All my characters with nice textures saved in a file( 1 per file) open pretty fast. But then i saved a V4 with a OLD PEOPLE texture and morph into a DS file and when i reopen that it takes quite alot more time to open.

why would this happen if, all the OLD people thing does is put a texutre on it and the morph is not that compolicated. like the wrinkles are on the texture not on the Model.

Are all these characters also V4, or are you using Genesis or Genesis2?

The problem is that V4 is a Poser figure, created with Poser-format files. These files load perfectly into DAZ|Studio, but they are not native-format D|S files, they must be converted every time you load a pristine V4 from the Poser Formats content section. Loading a saved V4 is also variable, depending on how you save. The right way is to go into the File menu and select File>Save As>Support Asset>Figure/Prop Asset. This completely converts V4 into a figure using D|S-format files, which ought to load just as fast as a Genesis figure.

The other way to do it, saving a scene with only a V4 in it, does not completely convert the figure. This affects loading speed.

Genesis figures load faster (my computer isn't particularly new or fast, and I have a lot of morph packs installed, but I still have a load time of only 5-10 seconds) because they're made to be D|S-format files from the beginning, nothing needs to be loaded-then-converted.

Unless something has changed with 4.7 that only works for TriAx rigged figures or static unrigged props.

Poser content has never been compatible with DS, it has to be dragged through conversion software before it will work in DS, so every time you load a Poser file it has to be converted, and that takes time.

Saving them in the DSON (DS native) format doesn't help any with speeding up loading, as there are a lot of references in the DUF file as a result of the figure not being TriAx WM. DS has to read and check all of them before it can load anything.

My own gen3 and gen4 figures are in the DSON format, loaded into an empty scene, injected with all of the DAZ3d morph sets I own and then saved as a scene subset. Load time depend on the number of channels DS needs to create, so they vary between 5 to 20 seconds.

Hmm, I must have misunderstood something from the old forums, way back when I first came across this subject.

Powerloader is the big time taker
if you can load a V4 without using it it is much quicker but you need to add all the morphs manually after from pose.
Poser cr2 files I have saved of characters I like load much faster than V4 with powerloader and I only learnt this because I broke powerloader anyway she loads as Reby Sky and no matter what I do even removing files and reinstalling have never been able to fix it.
I mostly use Carrara where I do load a saved V4 with all the morphs from Poser so in fact powerloader not something I need or want anyway and since learning how much faster she loads in DAZ studio without it am thinking of scrapping it.
