Sun-Kissed Facial Freckles

CricketCricket Posts: 465

Can anyone who has this product tell me exaclty how to use it? No matter which material I select, it hides G8F's face. The product page says it's a geoshell set - am I supposed to add a geoshell first? I'm obviously doing something wrong, but I can't figure out what.

Yes, you have to create a geoshell of your character, select the geoshell, and apply the presets to the geoshell.

Ok, I did that and the freckles show up on her face, but her eyes, ears, arms and legs are all white now. How do I fix that?

    Which preset did you apply?

I tried SKF Freckles 02 A, which only effects the face. I assumed then that I had to use "SKF convert Geoshell Layer to G8F", which affected the torso, but nothing else.

I got this working the other day, but now I am struggling with it again today. I am using Jenni 8 as my model. The complete lack of instructions is discouraging.

The "00 Pre Made Sets" create the geoshell for you and add the freckles materials, but I get a white torso.

The "01 Geoshell Layers Use 1st" add the geoshell, but when I select it and apply materials from "02 Materials", I get a white torso again.

When using this on Genesis 8, I think you have to apply "SKF Convert Geoshell Layer to Genesis 8 F" in the Utilities folder. I think the product was created for G8.1F and to use it with G8F or G3F, you have to apply the conversion material from the Utilities folder.

Did you create your own geoshell from the DS Create menu, or did you use the "01 Geoshell Layers use 1st" to create the geoshell? I think the latter is the correct way to create the geoshell for this product. It sets cutout opacity to 0 for the unwanted shell surfaces, except for torso.

You can always go into the surfaces tab and set cutout opacity to 0 for the white surfaces, or set their visibility to OFF in the Parameters pane as a last resort.

I'm going to submit a help request on this product. The complete lack of instructions is unacceptable. Customers shouldn't have to struggle like this. Maybe the instructions were accidently left out when Daz packaged the product.

I don't even see an option to load a geoshell, so I created my own.

The "Accessory" files in folders "00 Pre Made Sets" and "01 Geoshell Layers use 1st" create the geoshell. I am referring to the folders I see in the Content Library under People/Genesis 8 Female/Geo Shells/Freckles G8F/.

Trying to use this product from Smart Content with every single option lumped in the same "Skin" category is enough to make a customer want to return the whole thing!

Here is "SKF frreckles 02 A" on Jenni 8 at default opacity. It looks more like acne, pimples or a rash than freckles on her skin tone. I think perhaps at lower opacity or with a color change, it might look better. There are 4 opacity presets in the product.

I don't have that folder either. I'm going to try uninstalling and reinstalling with DIM and see if that helps.

**EDIT** And that at least gave me the folder in Content Library. I'll have to see now if that works.

These are the steps I took to create the image attached above:

    1. Load Jenni 8 and select here in the Scene pane.
    2. Load SKF Shell Layer 01. This loads a geoshell named Facial Freckles Shell 01. The torso of the shell is white with 50% opacity.
    3. Select Facial Freckles Shell 01 in the Scene pane.
    4. Apply materials SKF Convert Geoshell Layer to Genesis 8 F. This turns off the opacity of the white torso of the shell.
    5. Apply material SKF Freckles 02 A.

I updated my help request to gripe about the bad Smart Content metadata that lumps everything into Materials/Skin. The files that load the geoshells are of type "Accessory" and are not materials. Separating those with a proper metadata category would help, I think.

Here is the same setup with the freckles opacity reduced to 45%. It looks much better to me.

Now I have it working. Thank you barbult for your help.

**EDIT** And I agree about the documentation!

You are welcome. I needed another look at it today to figure it out again, so you helped me, too.

Have you gotten any feedback on this? It is ridiculous that a product like this has no documentation at all.

Sun-Kissed Freckles (SKU 82099) has no usage instructions and is not intuitive. Please provide directions for using this product on each of the supported models, G3F, G8F, and G8.1F.

The poor metadata in this product adds to the difficulty in using it. Everything is lumped under "Materials/Skin". Not all of these files are Materials. Some of them are of type "Accessory" and load geoshells into the scene. Those are not materials. To use this product, it is critical to load one of those geoshell accessories first. Separating them with a proper metadata category would help.
