DS 4.7 crashes on render -- I have a message in the log file -- now what?

Hi all. So I have DS 4.7.0.12 64-bit running on an HP Pavilion G7 laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium, AMD A6-3420M APU with Radeon HD 1.5 GHz graphics, 8 GB of RAM. Recently DS 4.7 has been crashing on render, and the log file keeps saying the following:

DB Insert error: "FILE: ..\..\sources\VKernel\Fbl\prot\Structure\VarChar\FBL_VarCharFile.cpp FUNCTION: fbl::VarCharFile::BinarySearch LINE: 497" Varchar data "" is corrupted.

Now what? Any guidance would be appreciated.

Well, the error suggests that something is corrupted. It may be a good idea to do a check on your HD, in case that indicates problems there, but the first thing to do is to see if even a simple primitive (Create>New Primitive with an empty scene) crashes.
