Downloading with DIM option gone...

I didn't see any kind of announcement and I just noticed that DIM is no longer an option to download content. Did I miss some big announcement and when did this happen?

Download with DIM is still an option.
There's a problem currently which makes download links unavailable in product library though. Daz is aware and working on it.

It is just a surprise to go to the download section and everything refering to DIM is now gone. I saw a post where someone was having issues but I didn't know it was that wide spread and you would think that daz would post something about taking DIM down while they were working on the problem instead of remaining silent and leaving people to wonder and make assumptions.

Yeah it has been like this for a while what ever change they made to the store broke that option.. Until they get around to fixing it, you will have to open DiM manually to download any new purchased content..

Apparently fixed, at least I had the normal download buttons a few minutes ago.

And they wonder why people on the forums get so upset over things. A little bit of information generally goes a long way!

I agree with you completely, but I guess it is to much for them to learn from the past and will continue to repeat the same mistakes well into the furute.

I think the best policy with DIM is to keep a shortcut handy on your desktop and use that to run DIM. I keep mine with my DS shortcut. You can also put it on the start menu or taskbar, whatever works best.

I don't use a download system since I have a custom library setup that isn't DIM or Central friendly, I was just asking since it seemed strange that the DIM option was missing.

My policy may help some people who actually use DIM.

Sorry if it sounded like I was knocking your idea, that wasn't the intent of my comment, I think your idea sounds like a good one and would be helpfull.

You can download with DIM and install manually, if desired - that way you would get update notifications.

I was under the understanding that you would have to have DIM on and you can't have DIM and studio open at the same time.

You can have DIM and Daz Studio open at the same time. You might need to refresh the list inside of Daz Studio after you install but it is no problem to have them both open.

If you are not installing through DIM then that wouldn't be an issue at all.

If you install with DIM with DS open you have to re-import metadata most of the time. A simple refresh doesn't always work. I don't even mess with refresh anymore cause I have to do the re-import more often if I forget to close DS while installing.

Yeah I think the product library is fine, where I am coming from is when you buy something new and you had the install with DiM option at the end.. You could click on that and it would automatically open and log into DiM for you.. That option now only leads to a info page instead..

Metadata? ;) Normally not something I look at at all so I didn't notice that.

I just tested DIM and it works fine in auto and manual mode. Luckily I nade a restore because DIM auto loves to overwrite beta files etc. I use DIM but the way I use it allows me to save each version of DAZ and Beta versions, without overwriting existing files. DIM is a fantastic tool if you control it, versus it controlling your content.I download everything with DIM to a SDD 4 TB external but first I manually download all products files to a different assets external drive. People who only rely on DIM are missing out ontemplates. And those who allow DIM to do an auto install will lose existing versions you may want or need to go back to. The DIM tool is fantastic is you use it wisely.

Edit I never allow it to auto login. That I do manually after creating a restore point.

DIM does not auto install.  Newer versions of Studio will appear in Updates under download but the last version you downloaded will still be in your download folder.
