Texture Issue on Primitive Plane

I'm trying to make a basic floor, using a primitive plane with a texture applied. I created the plane, and made the scale very large to cover a wide area. When I apply a texture, I get the effect in the attached image. Dingy, not related to the texture I picked, with these obvious lines in odd places. It doesn't matter which texture I pick, I get the exact same result. 

I've played with most texture settings, and tried changing the plane y position slightly. It doesn't matter if the textures are Iray or not, and I've confirmed it looks like this in the actual render. 

I'm a pretty new user, so I might be missing something simple. Any thoughts on what I'm doing wrong?
